So I have not seen this brought up here...did I miss something? I searched, so forgive me if I am reposting :)

This came up in my eBay search watch list and I had briefly asked about this when I saw it in a picture at one of the bigger conventions.

Apparently up for PreOrder and the description says:

In the Star Wars movies not only do they make multiple copies of the props we see on screen, but different versions, as well. These are divided into two categories commonly referred to in the industry as “hero” and “stunt”. Hero props are made for close ups and promotional pictures which require a more beauty shot of the prop. Often they are featured with the main characters while stunt versions are used for the “extras” in the background.

Most of the time when a lightsaber is ignited on screen, it is a stunt version of the hilt. These props are usually cast in resin from the hero prop and then painted to look just like the hero prop. They are lighter and easier to wield while filming the exciting lightsaber duels and action scenes. In the case of the stunt lightsabers, there is usually a rod attached to the hilt so that the actors can actually duel and make contact with the blades. These rods are also invaluable reference points for the special effects technicians to later digitally add in the signature glows of the lightsaber blades.

This stunt lightsaber is a faithful replica of the hero prop used in the Star Wars movies and comes with a unique lightsaber and plaque stand to display your lightsaber.

Huh. Interesting. Is this eFX? There's no manufacturer's information in the text or photos.

Shame that it's painted silver rather than chromed, but it looks like it would be a good, decently-priced way to get a TMP saber for those of us who want one.

I haven't paid much attention to the licensed saber side of things in a long time – this says it's an open-ended edition, so I assume it'll be around for a while. Do these things ever go on sale, or have any kind of discount? What's the cheapest place to pick one up?

I've bought some resin efx sabers.Their retail price is 100 usd, so I don't know why they are charging more than that for a pre-ordering. Replicas are good, worth the price, however, some of them have become hard to get, and that's when their price rises incredibly (up to 300), but if this TPM is an open edition, then price whould be low (like count Dooku's). Best place to buy these? Efx website or ebay, there are lots of authorized efx dealers.

I am too.

I preordered it from Redford Films. $109.99 with free shipping and they say it will ship next Friday.

The E1 is painted silver and the E2 will be chromed.

I think, for lightsaber enthusiasts, it was talked about at some point - I've seen replicas that have someone's name to them in the junkyard, including the amethyst button. To others, there isn't any real history to it: it was machined in shop, and cast in a few different materials, and we already know how they made the stunts in Ep. 1.

That being said, this was the first saber I tried to make - hardware style. This movie came out during my later childhood (I'll be 22 this year), so TPM sabers I happen to love, this one being my favorite. I played with these toys as much as the Luke and Darth Vader toys, so...in essence, I want this too!!!

There is 2 versions? I only found information on the one version...

Oh I understand that, however it is one of the most asked about lightsabers and elusive ones on here and elsewhere . Really one everyone likes from the prequels and just surprised to see such a soft reception. :)

I wish that efx would do accurate replicas of the actual stunt props and not just resin copies of the mr sabers. I'd love to see an accurate chrome OWK ep1 saber. But the mr saber is very different from the resin stunts used in tpm and aotc and so I think that a lot of the mr inaccuracies will get passed along to these replicas

There will (eventually) be an Episode 2 version which will be chromed. There is a picture floating around of both versions on display at a convention.

Weird, I took a look around and I could not find anything of that. All I saw on displays was this one.

Its hard to say. On some things they went back to the beginning. I guess we'd have to ask.

Yeah, I hated the MR EE TPM replica. It was a shame they didn't do a GOOD non-elite version. Off the top of my head I believe it was the only replica they did that was ONLY a EE. Gold plated valve? Really?

For $100, I figured I'd bite on the Efx.

This is not my pic so if anyone knows whose it is, I'm happy to give credit.

Looks like the EPII is exactly the same as the EPI, just with chrome. It even has the holes in the pommel cubes still. I think that's the version of choice.

Well, eFX are doing the Darth Maul Legend lightsaber, which is (I think) cast directly from one of the stunt sabers, so maybe they'll do the same with Obi-wan's. Personally, I'm not that fussed, I'll happily pick up one of the non-shiny ep1 versions, so long as sellers on ebay don't try and price gouge.

Totally agree! I hope they don;t do the MR AOTC version with the smooth red button and gold valve...

Very Well aware of that version of the lightsaber. This version is a $100 stunt version and not really comparable with a full metal one.
