Obi Cut-away completed.

Howard, thank you for posting those other images. You've done outstanding and beautiful work, once again.

Wow, Howard. :confused

What an extraordinary piece of work.

Definitely one of the coolest props I've ever seen on this board.

Do you sketch out your ideas before you start or do you just dive into a box of parts and start building? I want to know more about the process you go through to create such a stunning work.

I came close to sketching this time. :)
I do have an idea of what I want to see from the build - I wanted the complex pipe work this time, and it had to make visual sense - note the Exactra PCB has tiny sensors pointing at the primary crystal - it had to look as though it could work.
With this in mind, a great deal of time is spent preparing the parts, arranging them, putting them together to see how they look. Planning really is the key, it has to look right so I tend to spend hours just playing with the parts and scratching my head until something does look right.
Often I'll find a part which needs to be altered, sawn in half or have part of it removed, a hole drilled of another piece added to it.
The emitter cone for example. That's part of a cine camera lens. I had to grind it down to fit into the emitter, then I sanded off the aluminum anodizing to reveal the brass beneath. That was then polished with T-cut and Brasso to clean up all the grinding scars.
The real difficulty with this model is cutting the parts (Parks BTW, plus a Gavidoc emitter, plastic handwheel) exactly down the middle. I had to work very slowly and carefully, and that's not easy for someone who likes to see instant results. :lol BTW, I've just cut a Parks MPP in half with an X-acto razor saw - it took the best part of 2 days.

Howard.

Okay, let me just say this and get it out of the way: I HATE YOU.

Alright. With that said and done. ;) You sir are an artiste and master craftsman. I'd kill for your skills. You've achieved a nice balance, everything layed out and linked together as if the force itself guided your hands. A huge lab grown diamond. You NUT. How much did that thang cost? Kudos on the activation box. The Luke Revealed just ignored the AB. I am curious what a 'down the barrel' view looks like. Is there a lenze/crystal in the emitter? Can you see the blue LED light?

Many thanks for sharing this beautiful piece with us.

Thanks Jay.
The 'diamond' was around $40.
I'll post a 'down the barrel' pic tomorrow - but yeah, you can see the emitter crystal though there.
There's a lens in front of the emitter crystal, sitting on the tube in the brass neck.

Howard.

Amazing job. You must be very proud.

I'm surprised nobody commented on your references to a Park's MPP. Already have the next one in mind?

Wow Wow Wow, really great looking. I would love to see that thing in person, maybe you should send it to me, I promise I'll return it...
No? Oh well, great saber, now a full Darth Maul cut away. I can only dream.

Absolutely stunning. :eek That would be, as others have mentioned, the absolute highlight of an in-depth saber collection.

Now I just need to get one for it to be the center of my collection. :D

That is crazy. I hope no one got hurt when you turned it on the first time. Like Adam said to Eve "you better stand back I don't know how big this thing is going to get" Fantastic job Howard.

What a richly imagined and impeccably executed piece of work. :love

Magnificent, Howard. :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup

wow...

just.... wow. :confused :confused :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup

the victorian age blasters you did were terrific, and i didnt think you could top them, but this sucker is flat out amazing.

very VERY cool take on the saber. i cannot imagine the work that went into making this, but you did a hell of a job. any chance you are a watch repairman or something? you seem to know a lot about these little brass knick knacks and bars and gears and whatnot ;)

are you going to try for a vader cutaway?
