Nuclear Reactor cut-aways

My first thought was, "Isn't this confidential information?" But I guess it's not the same as makig a bomb, haha!

It would indeed be a heck of a project to do a scaled model, and to have it a cutaway like some of the excellent cutaway lightsaber projects I've seen here on the board!

Actually there's a lot of information on the principles and construction of not only nuclear reactors, but of nuclear weapons, in the public domain. The genie cannot be put back in the bottle.

A friend and I did the computer analysis and report on the physics of the spherical implosion for a high school report in the mid-80's. We got an A but it was censored by the school administration immediately. Even back then we were able to find out quite a bit, now with the internet, anyone that really wants to find such information can find it on the net.

And lets not forget that these are very primative reactors......1970`s, even the Candu thats 1990 is Old fashiond. but very cool!!!!!

In my early days in industrial model building, we did several reactor cut-a-ways for General Atomics. For full size and submarine units. I'll see if I can find some pics.

I was in the turbine room of one recently, it was one of the coolest things I had ever seen in person. Just massive. The part that freaked me out was that we were walking on grated floors the entire time, so if you look at those drawings and find the turbine, you could see four or five stories straight down. That was crazy, but a lot of fun.

is this prop related ? lol

I work for a northeastern US company at a dual-unit Boiling Water Reactor nuclear generating plant site. Work in fire/safety. Been with the company at the plants for the past 27 years. These plants are 70's vintage technology compared to the new tech plants being designed and readied for construction as we speak. And before you ask, I don't glow in the dark (lol) and Homer Simpson does not work there either (lol). We used to have a public visitor's center and full color cutaways of both plants, but since 911, alot of that stuff has disappeared from public view.

cool, My late father was a master plumber for many a nuclear plants over the years. Got caught up in asbestos lawsuits and we still receive money from companies , and he died of Cancer in 1999 .

..but what I was saying they are great but it's more of an off topic thread. neither one of us can get in there yet to post or reply to it..lol

Took a tour of the University of Michigan's Atoms for Peace reactor several years ago, before 9-11. What little I recall was interesting.
