Re: Update! First Nostromo parts out of the Mold!

Loving all these Nostromo pics!! I lie the lighted up underside image. I've seen pics of the lighting elements all laid out, but never an actual shot of it coming down like that. very cool!!

VERY COOL SHOT!

Looks like Starboard side, near the elevator airlock looking forward.. He sees them exiting the elevator platform here.... He must have went down to the airlock, got Dalla, Kane, and Lambert in there, then entered the left corridor, then a couple steps down, then a right turn to the glass observation window

Draw a quick sketch! :cool It'd be good to get it worked out.:thumbsup

Re: Update! First Nostromo parts out of the Mold!

My assumptions and directions in the ship are based on us looking from rear to front. From what I can tell, The lift airlock was near a landing strut, presumably the fore strut. This area was on C-deck, presumably the coldest deck when in Planetary atmosphere when the ship was idle,, and extremely hot due to humidity caused by the Atomic reactor or direct starlight heating the hull,- causing a drizzling sweltering heat, depending on outside hull temperature, and engine power output.

Science officer Ash seemed to be the guy manning the airlock, and maybe this explains how he was able to manipulate the alarm to scare the ALIEN out of the airlock in the deleted scene.

It only makes sense that the Lift- (elevator). the lift airlock, and the observation blister are situated near if not directly below the Nostromo's bridge, forward living, admin, and medical compartments on the front 25% of the hull.
The main ladders and elevator must have linked A, B, and the forward more accessable part of "C" deck together.. C deck, Where the food storage freezers, and Compressed coolant (frozen O2), mining survey tractor, and THEN the Front landing claw, behind the bulkhead we saw Brett walking through rearward to look for Jones the cat. It was a massively tall room where the landing strut retracted upwards, taking up space through part of the "B" deck I imagine, and housing cooling plumbing in the upper part of the room, probably this deck had to be accessible to most parts of the reactor for maintenance...thus explaining all of the livable yet utilitarian look...
"B" deck extends towards the most far rear of the ship, ending towards the rear reactor control room, where the windows overlook the horizontal reactor housing extending through a vertical cavern from hull bottom to top
I have a feeling we may be going beyond what the actual designers envisioned, and probably some real help or even a sanctioned bit of guidance would be appreciated from anyone here who might have been anyway involved with the original vision of this ship..
...or then again, maybe we can figure this out ourselves....:love
I will try to make a simple sketch based on what can I see, and leave the details to Space Jockey who has much more experience in the minutia of this ship

jtparker - these are some low-res pics of the Nostromo set-design blueprints - maybe you can get something from the layouts?

Thanks for the link to the website, blipper. This guy has sold original blueprints before on ebay though sadly I was too late to bid on the A Deck ones, and they are way out of my price range; but, they are really really good and show A Deck pretty well. Pity there are no C or B Deck plans there which are the least well known areas. :cool

JTP you raise some really good points. It certainly makes sense to me to have the majority of the living and working areas up front with engineering spreading out from this out toward the bottom and rear of the ship.
I try to think of it as 'zones' working out via a very loose concept plan first, based on what we know, and then filling in the gaps. Be interesting to figure out how they lower the mining / survey equipment down onto the planet / docking station / whatever suface. However there's some aspects in the movie that would be extremely difficult to figure out and it'd never be 100%... but we take the 30-40% we know and make the rest as believable as possible.

I see no reason why we cannot use a bit of creative license. Just because Ash waves from his blister to Dallas et al doesn't mean to say they were facing him; maybe Dallas turned around, and waved back. Who knows; for me it makes working it out all the more exciting. :cool

Come on JTP, show us more photos of that 2ft model, I'm gasping to see more!

Re: Update! First Nostromo parts out of the Mold!

after being out of town for business for the last few days, I finally got the chance to finish the new reworked rear VTOL thrusters Space Jockey spec-ed out for me. After hours of viewing his reference stuff and cool stuff others have posted here, here is the new accurate thruster on the bottom of the Starboard nacelle, these will be included with the kit. Thanks S.J.!

Re: Update! First Nostromo parts out of the Mold!

That's looking superb!
I can't wait to see this fully built (illuminated?) and painted.

Karl, just for the sake of reference, the last shot you posted with Brian leaning on the Nostromo has been flipped. No big deal, but I thought I'd point it out.

Re: Update! First Nostromo parts out of the Mold!

I haven't had much time to look in on this in a while and haven't any funds either. But as soon as that improves I want this incredible kit. WOW!!! Has this thing come along. Absolutely brilliant!!!

Re: Update! First Nostromo parts out of the Mold!

That is looking absolutely top notch. Well done! And thanks for the update! :cheers

Re: Update! First Nostromo parts out of the Mold!

Well, looks like I've found a photo where you can see a leg, the blister & the hatch ! Hope it'll be useful to Space Jockey's blueprint project !

Re: Update! First Nostromo parts out of the Mold!

That is a great pic... i watched alien about 3 times today, I noticed from the Blister you could see along the side hull towards the back, and a little bit of the Starboard engine to the right, I think the point of the observation blister was to be able to observe and inspect the bottom of the hull and refinery storage tanks..or whatever cargo the Nostromo towed. Obviously I could be wrong, but one could see why this safety feature would exist.

Tonight I have mated the front VTOL and retro engines to the nacelle, I am getting ready to float out the joints with a little spot putty, add more plumbing and detail, and pretty much finish up the starboard nacelle...

DAMN!!! I didn't think this kit was that huge! I thought a little bigger than the old Halcyon... WRONG!!! Excellent workmanship JT!!!
