Nostromo research

Re: Update! First Nostromo parts out of the Mold!

This is absolutly gorgeous !

I can't wait to see your fully finished and superdetailed Nostromo.

But as fast as you are it can't be a very long time to wait.

Wonderful.

Re: Update! First Nostromo parts out of the Mold!

Just saw your thread over on the Aliens Legacy board, and now I find this thread and it's almost a month old!

This is great, truly great, to see that the old AEF molds have been saved.

There is someone who built (and kitted) a Nostromo with refinery platform over on the starship modeler forum, and then there's the Minimodel Madness refinery platform that's about 5 inches long (no Nostromo included).

As for the derelict ship, Monsters In Motion has what is probably a recast of the old Mermaid Models derelict.

But don't let this deter you, I'm just throwing this out there for those who would like to know.

Re: Update! First Nostromo parts out of the Mold!

One of the benefits of making a lot of parts, is there will always be one with errors, So those parts I save for myself to build my own. Here I am sanding and fitting my pieces together, and detailing the hull with pvc vinyl slat material that is great for cutting into little squares, this combined with a multi-hued panel paint job will do wonders and bring the ship to life later on by breaking up the surface...

sorry about the crummy pic, its my camera phone

THanks!!!!

I wish I was as good as some of the talent I see on this site!!! there are some awesome models here!!!!!!!

Re: Update! First Nostromo parts out of the Mold!

Here is the forward part of the fuselage added. I used 2-part epoxy, and lined up the nose section with pre-marked lines i penciled on all four sides to line it all up. once the epoxy set, I blended in the nose module with the best stuff of all, good-old Bondo. using a small vinyl paddle to smooth it on and blend in the lines. This model is made of PVC, very tough, so bondo will make a nice sandable filler I can use my small file set to finish it out and spot putty it... Mercedes diamond white for a finish maybe????

Re: Update! First Nostromo parts out of the Mold!

Now things get fun, Im cutting details down to a 2mm size, with tweezers and a needle, overlapping them onto panels and in small strips to accentuate the nostromos shape... I have already started to smooth out the fairing with a file, and now have applied spot-putty for final fine grit sanding, then small details will be added to the forward pod. I found some tiny rod and various bits to add cool shapes. after these are applied, I will go with thinner yet details to further add depth to the surface... heres what I have so far, hopefully in a couple days of spare time between pouring molds, I can start on the engine pods, and add the upper docking module

Re: Update! First Nostromo parts out of the Mold!

So happy to see this project underway and in such good hands. Always puzzled me why nothing beside the antiquated and over priced Halcyon has been available. One of my favourite ships. Interested (pending the necessaries). All the best with it.

Re: Update! First Nostromo parts out of the Mold!

Thanks a bunch to Mr. David Ledwith at deviantart.com for the box graphics...

The little detail bits you added really add to it. The Nostromo is a ship with a very "busy" hull.

Im using stills from Alien the directors cut for the detailing, Holy cow this will take a few days just to do the hull and engine nacelles in my spare time!
Tomorrow I will shoot a side with primer grey to see if anymore will be needed, there has to be a stopping point sometime lol!!!!!

Re: Update! First Nostromo parts out of the Mold!

I roto-casted two more hulls tonight, now I am getting the quality a lot more spot-on, and the trick is it making sure there is enough time for curing, but the hulls are coming out fabulously now...heres a pic of the latest raw hull just about 5 minutes out of the mold.
