Nostromo research

Re: Update! First Nostromo parts out of the Mold!

Newbie,

That will be cool to see. So far I have only seen a little tiny resin kit that is a derelict kit with a broken boom...it kinda sucks. I think it is out of Alien 2 or something. I saw ALIEN in the Theater when it came out, Scared the hell out of me, I was like 12 I think.I never saw any of the other alien movies, I pretty much know the story. It takes all the mystery out of the original and just kills it with all the rubber looking suits that I have seen from pics. My 14 year old had alien vs predator, and that whole premise just sounded absurd. maybe they should do an R2D2 vs. Twiki (from Buck Rogers) I am sure some produce could sell that premise as well.

Thanks Parker! You're more than welcome! I hoped you'd like them! Now if only I could find a way to make this without being the size of a house!:lol

Very Nice Pics!!!!! I saw somewhere a guy built a big refinery in his kitchen.. I cant find it now... can you post some of the derelict?

I'll try to,but I can't guarantee,as these are the only pics I could find of it!

Re: Update! First Nostromo parts out of the Mold!

Im almost halfway through casting the second nostromo, The parts seem to be coming out a little cleaner now, It was the first pull from the molds that rehabilitated them, Tonight I will do another Hull, Im pouring around 2 gallons of resin tonight...!!!! Lots and Lots of work!!!!

Re: Update! First Nostromo parts out of the Mold!

wonderful this is really something. I have wanted to build a nostromo for ever its the only thing about the movie I liked. but saddly there is little ref photos available

Re: Update! First Nostromo parts out of the Mold!

Tonight I will start etching and detailing a hull that was a "second" but with tons of detail and little panels, it will start taking shape...

It's looking really good Mr. Parker, and you're doing a great job of the castings.

Re: Update! First Nostromo parts out of the Mold!

Thanks Space Jockey!

I started to build one myself, here I have started some basic detailing on a rear hull bulkhead, Im using tiny brass tubing, assorting little parts and vinyl sheet to build up "plumbing and reactor" effects on the rear hull. Actually most of this will be covered by the engines, but still I will know its there :lol:lol:lol:lol

Re: Update! First Nostromo parts out of the Mold!

Thanks professor!

I am about 90% done with a second complete kit. My wife is doing the small parts on the trees during the day, and Man she is getting better than me at this, but what I have to do is rotocast the 3rd Hull tomorrow, and that is Heavy, and after that a couple of small thrusters, and thats Number 2..

In this pic is parts I set together some parts I am using to make my own. These parts have some blemishes that I dont mind sanding or using a bit of putty, Here I have the lower smaller thruster sitting on the hull with a docking module, and the first layer of detail on the rear of the hull. The second layer will be added after the central Main Engine is added, in the form of more tiny brass "reactor cooling pipes: going to the engine nozzle. On the lower thrusters, you can see the casting circles. these circles are removed by placing a sheet of medium grit sandpaper on a flat surface, and then thruster end nozzles are glued on using super-jet glue and a small amount of filler to conceal the lines...

In this pic you can see freshly cast solid resin parts. In the lower part of the pic are the thrusters that go on the engines in the above post These are only the small LOWER engines on the back). On the thrusters go flaps that are about a half inch...and if one wants to get really detailed, add brass rod into brass tube to create a hydraulic shock absorber effect.. to connect the flap actuators, the purpose of these flaps was to close down and lock over the refinery interface, and direct the engined thrust through a central channel and out the back of the refinery.. a pretty cool concept actually..
