This is great brad really enjoying this thread :cool

This project has progressed leaps and bounds past what I had expected - VERY good work!

Thanks GF. Here are a few pics of the other shoe:

Great Scott. Nice ideas with the plastic part on the heel. But how will you get the material not clear? The original one is some kind of matte.

Re: NIKE, you can go to hell. I'm making my own NIKE MAG's *SEWING TEST* 11-1 Pg.1

Here ya go Brad. Hope this helps:

R = Resistor :rolleyes. These will depend on the ratings of the LEDs used. There are plenty of sites that can calculate which resistors you will need depending on the miliamps of the LEDs being used. If you need any further detail or help with this just drop me a line and I'll help best I can. :thumbsup

Hello !

In your plan, you do not use inverter for the EL tape? You dont need?

For the sole, why not use a strip El tape?

Finally, for the yellow sole there is no product that can discolor ?

Re: NIKE, you can go to hell. I'm making my own NIKE MAG's *ANKLE BUBBLE* 11-6 Pg.

Thanks Minok!

Hey Luke. I am still going to probably make the bubble higher because the LED's need to fit in there better.

As for how I did it, I used a sheet of thin plastic (kind of like packaging plastic) laid it ontop of a form I pre-cut and heated it up, then pushed it through the cutout. It's like a reverse vacform.

That's a fair point actually, will be neater. If it can be a bit smaller than the Nike I think it would be a good improvement still.

Sounds good! As per another post, are you planning on using a matte plastic for the final one or does clear look better in person?

Good points goraeve. I assume that because he already has the El strip there, he will already have an inverter in place that he can add to the positive.

The El Tape in the soles are a great idea actually. I suggested using some wide beam LEDs with a silver shiny paper behind for even light, but I guess El would be a better idea, and probably what they used on the genuine shoe.

He has already tried with Gary, but was unsuccessful. I personally like the idea of the yellow sole as it's more original and classy. Also, the LEDs won't be as blinding. Don't get me wrong, clear also looks amazing, but I still prefer the yellow.

Re: NIKE, you can go to hell. I'm making my own NIKE MAG's *ANKLE BUBBLE* 11-6 Pg.

loving the progress here!
The the upper looks spot on, correct proportions, exact fabric weave and tone, the Mark Poon soles are good, however your shoe looks so accurate i'm wondering if you're thinking about re moulding the back part, the shape on the real Mag is really weighted to the base of the sole and they reach into the shoe further, setting off the swoosh, they also seem to 'peak' at the top, the shoe seems to have a lot of these bits that have to be just right, and they're all tricky! if are thinking of a new rear 'bit' how would you go about it? is it possible to build up layers of silicone?

I was going to ask the same questions, although I'm sure Brad is already on with it as he seems to be a perfectionist like me.

It's very hard to offer any other suggestions as it's so damn close to the real deal, but I guess the main (but minor) things are:

* Rear heel cup needs reshaping, and to be a bit taller so that the Nike logo can 'swoosh' at the right angle and sit a bit lower.

* Strap needs to fasten on the inside of the shoe for a cleaner look.

* Shoe needs to be a little bit sleeker around the mid section working up to the cutout bit with a slight tweak.

* (As Brad has already mentioned in his cool vid) the laces need to be a little bit shorter so not as bumpy.

* The rear white strap holder needs to be rounder and a bit larger around the sides

* Triangle cutout needs to be a bit larger along the bottom.

* The grey lip towards the back of the shoe needs to be just a tiny bit more horizontal.

once again... the ankle velcro strap is in the inner side of the shoe not out...

Re: NIKE, you can go to hell. I'm making my own NIKE MAG's *ANKLE BUBBLE* 11-6 Pg.

Thank you guys. I appreciate the support and critiques. I don't think I will be doing any rescultping of the heel cup or sole right now. If I go forward with making a shoe from scratch, then of course everything would be done perfectly. And that is probably a year away. All I want to accomplish with this project is to make these as accurate as I can. I believe that as soon as I install all the lights, paint the soles, redo the strap and add the white part these will all come together.

Again, thanks again for the critiques.

I think it's important that we keep the comments friendly and in positive spirit. I sure as hell couldn't do this myself and I have massive respect for what he has done and the good communications etc..

It purely is friendly feedback that sometimes you don't see with your own work, and helps achieve a better final product. They really are quite minor adjustments, but will make a big difference overall. :cool

Apart from the El strips, was the circuit diagram any help Brad? I'm no expert, but wasn't too bad with electronics back in school :lol

Re: NIKE, you can go to hell. I'm making my own NIKE MAG's *ANKLE BUBBLE* 11-6 Pg.

As for the light bubble diffusion, I plan on either to matte clear coat spray painting it or trying a frosted plastic.

As for the ankle strap, the reason it is strapped on the outside was because I messed up making the EL sheet on the wrong side. Although, some of the screen used shoes had the strap closure on the outside:

Never seen that pic before, pretty neat. I guess it's fine either way, but it will look smoother on the inside for sure.

The bubble idea sounds great. Look forward to yet another update. :thumbsup

p.s. If any of my suggestions above were taken even slightly offensively, be assured Brad, it wasn't meant that way at all. Please take it as a kind of 'mate' suggestion list as that's how it was intended. I'm just so excited about this project and just getting right into it. :lol

Not at all. I can handle ALL critisism. Thanks Luke. :thumbsup

Re: NIKE, you can go to hell. I'm making my own NIKE MAG's *ANKLE BUBBLE* 11-6 Pg.

honestly brad the only thing I see that needs improvement is the ankle lights. If you look closely the ankle lights need to be more angled almost coming close to the back of the heel piece. And the other thing I noticed is that the straps under the fabric seem to be too raised maybe a little less bulky.GET IT? GOT IT? GOOOOOOD :love

No worries :cool Sometimes things can come over completely the wrong way on the net!

I have just ordered a set of Poons Mags by the way. It looks like you have your hands full with this one until December - January and that's just your personal pair. I would guess that you wouldn't be able to convert mine until mid next year..? :-(

Do you think I should have a go myself, and would you be willing to let us know how you did the main cast and what materials were used? I think you may have quite a few pms and not seen my last one..?

Hey Pitbull,

Are you the guy who did the original LED conversions on Marks Mags? Great work if so :thumbsup How much would you want for a conversion? I may get this pair done depending on price (skint for Christmas!) and get a pair fully done from Brad when he is ready. *(Don't want to pester you too much Brad, but hope I can get a pair soon! :love)*

With your prop skills Pitbull, I'm suprised you haven't tried to do similar things with your Mags. Looks like there's another 2 guys on here trying now, but I have to say, this is the one to follow.

p.s. He's already on with streamlining the laces to look sleeker. Watch his YouTube vid, it's really good.

Yeah, I have been looking at them but in all hoensty they show up more pronounced in photos than they are in real life. The thickness of the laces are not too much thicker than the thinnest elastic laces I could find. Plus the release NIKE's have a double layer of fabric that lend to the laces appearing "thinner".

As for people wanting info on what materials I used to sculpt the form and such, I have NO problem sharing info. I encourage everyone to make their own.
