Nike Mag V2 Mod Discussion (Page 58 Shopping List)

Absolutely. I saw a few guy remove their uppers and thought why and how would they get them back together. Something I have done here is not to break things like the pink card frame that gives the shoe its shape. That layer may not seem important, but I am guessing it is the essential alignment of sole to upper.

I noticed with those opening up the toe, that they either really struggled or caused some damage to the rubber or fabric or both getting them apart. I think the strongest part of the gluing process (and this tear down) was getting the toe apart. The thing that made it easier was having the rest of the shoe to pull on whilst working my way forward. The heel breaks so easy. Almost too easy IMO.

This all started because I was explaining on a live chat how and where the battery is. As I pulled on the shoe to see what access point there were, the heel pretty much let go. From there, I worked my fingers underneath to discover there is no glue on the centre part of the foot frame. All the bonding is on the edges only. Because some of the shoe had already come undone on its own, I was able to just tease it along. By about the EL cutouts, things started to get tough and so out came the heat gun.

Definitely gives a HUGE advantage for the electronics side of things, not having to deal with the uppers getting in the way.

Will these still be your display pair after? or become a second wear pair?

That will remain to be seen. They were bought as a "for display only" and I should probably keep them that way. I am of course tempted to tear open the wear pair, but will wait until I at least have this pair back together.

These are US8 and yet, the foot frame is huge and my foot fits inside quite well. Glasses bought US8 in the V2 for his wear pair even though he is normally US10 because once the toe box is gone, he found that there is a heap of room and he wanted a tighter fitting shoe from when he did the sock toe slim on this HCs first.

I gained some 1/4" of room in my US9.5s just moving the heel cup from its place inside the mid-sole to the outside of the mid-sole, so can only imaging how loose these will go once the toe box is gone.

Extended tongues are now sewn in and this is a much neater job being able to access the join from inside the shoe.

Once again, I used the RD MAG pattern tongue, made up the three parts, sewed them together.

After I did a test fit. I decided to then trim down the top part to make sure it was not too long to fit these US8s.

The top of these new tongues is just level with the top of the grey around the pull holes on the collar. I need to add the trim to each but they now done. The seam closest to the top part sits just under the top lace and the 2nd seam hided beneath the 2nd lace. The base of the curved part folds under at the base of the fabric tongue and sewn from inside at the edges. I also used some superglue to seal off the stitches so they can't even come undone.

Pretty sure these are v2's, theres a swoosh in the box's reflection. $239 http://m.aliexpress.com/item/32261591713.html

Yes they are V2 by the look of the shape of the pull holes and yes, they have not photo shopped the MAG out on the right shoe.

So I assume by now everyone has seen this video. Really well done.

How cool is the practical effect? Would have been epic if they had done the strap as well! Looks like they used the same false floor idea used in the actual film.

Got to admit, so tempted now to make a pair of the FX shoes from those US8s whilst they are in pieces.

Finally have a pair of V2's on the way! The HC's just didn't suffice. Super excited to get started on modding these bad boys once they arrive!!

You made the good choice. Good luck for the modding.

for all of you that are creating your own Nike MAGs, where are you getting your wall chargers from? Do you just make your own?

Most of the time rechargeable 9V batteriedscome with their own charger. Just connect 9V clips to them and solder a male jack at the end of it to plug into the charging port.

Since my shoes are apart and I only have the edges of the cloth to line up, I decided to make a pair of lasts. I have used 10mm EVA foam cut to a side profile and have now started rounding to match my foot. I figured using foam would be rigid enough to hold the shape whilst still having enough flex to get the thing out of the shoe when I am done.

And one done. Heel looks a bit big, so will get the 2nd one to this stage and then trim down if needed.

Not sure if this is right (so lets ask a cobbler? @Cbstudios) but hopefully it will work.
