If I was to add noise, it would only be to the FX pair.

So I decided to make a new start on the lasts because symmetry is a be-otch and I think I might have just got it right.

Thought I'd check back on here after a year or so.

Still no progress on these mags? You'd think these Chinese folk would of at least tried to improve the quality. No V3s yet?

Might as well wait for the official ones this year.

No one ever wants to believe me. As I have stated NUMEROUS times, there will never be a V3 and the power lace shoes that will be released this year will NOT be MAG's.

Not exactly am improvement, but there is now that new version which seems to have the same lower 2/3rds of the V2 with a new shiny collar. At least the slimmer cuff looks good. Like the HC, it is too short and has no branding.

Given how well these companies can make replicas, and given the MAG has been out since September 2011, this is all a bit of a bad joke.

I believe you. That actually makes a lot of sense. If they came out with Real Power Lace MAGs now, it would be a slap in the face to those who bought the replicas for tens of thousands of dollars in 2011. It makes sense that they would release power laces this year, but with an entirely new design. Here's the question; Do you think the shoes released this year will be a limited edition charity type thing like 2011 or made available for the masses?

I am pretty sure it has already been stated that it will be a charity where the goal is to get as much as they can for each shoe - meaning they might not even be in pairs this time.

Anyway back onto modding my display pair. The lasts I made are too big for this pair, so I just made a double stack EVA innersole using the original pink cardboard part as a template. Originally I was not going to remove this part, but decided it might as well go and I am currently in the process of gluing in a 1.6mm plastic version.

Really don't get why they even use card board.

Today I started the reassembly of my shoes. Unlike most toe slims, I am not cutting any material off. I am simply re-building the toe without having the toe box (completely removed) to hold the boot shape. The idea is that the excess material will create the slump that makes the screen used shoe look so cool.

So after removing the cardboard and replacing it with plastic, it was a case of re-gluing the uppers. The process is a bit time consuming as each tab has to be folded and glued back down. I found it best to just glue a tab from one shoe and move to the other whilst that first tab dries.

This is what the toes look like with the lasts in place.

And once removed, the toes have a nice slump or holllow.

The lasts I made for this were simple, just two pieces of 10mm EVA glued together. EVA is rigid enough to hold shape and flexible enough to bend when it is time to take them out so has worked out well for this project.

Before I glue the uppers back to the mid-soles, I am going to mod the mid-sole where I will trim down the back part of the heel and am also going to attempt a build up on the front of the toe. I also would like to increase the shape of the instep and add that small lump on the outside part. I will have to completely re-texture these parts once done. I will also mod the heel cups as well.

Looking good my friend! It's all coming together.

Thank you :) What I have found is that the super glue is actually better as a stiffening agent rather than an adhesive in this case. The glue soaks into the cloth and holds it in place as a now plasticized material. It is stiff and can not unfold. The actual bond to the sole will be made using Shoe Goo which is strong and flexible. It just takes 24 hours to cure.

Using Shoe Goo to bond the new plastic innersoles to the uppers. Heels have already been done and I am just letting the toes set up now.

Because it is overcast, this stuff is curing quite quickly.

you said you are replacing the cardboard with plastic, what type? like an EVA foam or something stiffer? Some stiff plastics will crack if bent.

I have used 1.6mm Polypropylene, the same stuff speaker cones are made from. Very strong and very flexible. A total PITA to glue though, and why I am now using the Shoe Goo for this part as well as for the final bond to the mid-sole.

Hopefully next week I can get this off to the machine shop and get them to cut this into a piece of scrap metal or plastic.

So the plan is to have the machine cut the letters into the material backwards.

From there I can flood the cutout with eleastomer, peel it out and it should look like this.

Made a start to the mid-sole mods today where I will build up the toe, the outer double ridge, inner arc and cut back the heel to allow the heel cup to extend. I am not going to do the heel cup mod the same way as I did my wear pair (unless I have to) because of the extra material and time needed to built that back round. It looks like I can cut away 1/4 off the back of the mid-sole, fill it in and round that to blend in and should be good to go.

Once this is done and the new MAG letters are fixed the heel cup, drop those parts in some rubber :)
