This is the only one that seems close to what I use.

If you look at the small quantities mix is about 50%. Given the cost of this stuff - OUCH!

Another thing to consider too is that I am mixing into a clear liquid. All the GITD paint products I've seen are white liquids that then glow green or blue or somewhere in between like cyan. I do have to wonder how much of an impact that white colour has on the brightness of the light.

I guess they weren't kidding about the potency of their product.

Mine is also a white paint, very thick stuff so it can be built up to that 1/16th inch layer they talk about. I don't think the white afffects it too much, at least not as a relatively thin layer of paint. When it dries it has a very very light green tint.

I would not call it potent if you have to mix that much in there. 15% is potent, not 50% per volume.

Update on the Heel Cup mod is that I am had to remove the work from last night and today and start over. Lucky I got to it before the 6 hours today or my shoes would have been a throw away.

So when what you are doing is not working, you need to do something different.

A while ago I purchased a spare pair of Heel Cups. Using both a 2 part silicone putty and a 2 part silicone liquid, I have been able to take an exact mold of the centre part of these heel cups including all the letters in perfect condition. The reason I only want the centres is because I will use these to layer up over my existing Heel Cups to give the extra bulge I am after. I should also be able to slightly lower it before I attach it, and then I can blend the new extended parts in using the same technique I have been using on the rest of the soles.

Molds should be cured by now.

Assuming they are being honest...

"Glow Inc only uses Grade 0 or Grade 1 pigments, while most Internet sources use Grade 4 or 5. We add those pigments at a ratio of 2 lbs of phosphorescent pigment to 1 gallon of medium. The combination of high grade pigments, high ratio, and quality medium results in the brightest glow in the dark paint. In fact, our paints are typically 3 times brighter than those sold by our competitors on the Internet and 20-30 times brighter than those sold in craft stores."

Cool. Just know my GITD powder didn't come from any craft store and the 1KG pack cost more than your shoes and why it is as bright as it is. Here is an image of it at full charge captured with a phone camera under artificial light.

For those that care: Both Heel Cup molds have been filled with light grey rubber this morning, so hopefully by this afternoon, I can attach and start the blend in.

Ahoy there. I'm modding up my HC Mags and was thinking about giving the EL installation in the soles a try. What's the latest on where to get the EL sheets now? Also, can these wire in to where the existing blue lights are, or does there need to be a separate power source for these? Just wondering.

Do you have the inverter? You will be best replacing the battery.
Dyed my soles with rit what do you guys think?
Looks better.

I found a good resource for EL sheets, and a WHOLE lot of other stuff that would be useful for mods:

http://www.adafruit.com/

I ordered several little battery powered inverters with built-in switches for the EL strap mods I got from Mark Poon. Assuming wire glue will work for connecting the wires to the wire cape, it eliminates the need for soldering (which I suck at). The EL sheets look very simple to work with as well.

Read page 200 of this topic. There is a post that can help get you oriented, you'll know which one as soon as you see it.

Also, there is an HC specific topic.

So I wanted larger letters (NIKE MAG) for my MAGs and by using Pinkysil Putty, I made this.

PinkySil Putty is a 2 part (A+B) silicone additive molding material and will take an imprint of pretty much anything. Because the Heel Cup is convex (outwards and round), the initial imprint was concave (hollow and round) and because this stuff is extremely flexible, I was able to flatten it out. As a result, the letters actually become slightly larger. So the goal here is fill in the letters in some white and aqua rubber first, then coat it with a thin layer of light grey. Once that all sets, peel it out and I should have larger letters in the correct colours that, unlike paint, won't scrape off. Cool!

Either ebay or any online site.

And more PinkySil Putty :)

Normally when you make a mold for a complex 3D part like a Heel Cup, you make a two part mold in a box. If I was to do that, I would start with mound of Plasticine (that was pre-tested to ensure it does not re-act with the silicone) and then push the part in to seal off the back. You build a mold box around that. You mix up a batch and pour hoping your mold box does not leak. Once that is done, you remove that part from the box, flip it over and painstakingly remove all the clay. You build the box back up and fill up the remainder of the space with more silicone. Hopefully you remembered to add pour holes and registration points or its all for nothing. It uses a lot of silicone and you have to be careful about how you build up the parts with clay/Plasticine so you can get your part out of the mold later on and that the two halves seal when you pour. Making a mold like that takes time, patients and costs a lot of material given the size of the box normally needed.

The method I am using is probably very unorthodox, but fun (because this stuff is soft and squishy) and less expensive (still not cheap at $70/KG) and makes NO MESS, so very high WAF! And that is really important when you bring your hobby from the garage into the house.

These are work in progress and done differently where they open from the top and so are like a little pocket as they are actually a one piece mold. As you can see the one on the left is still not complete. I've been doing these progressively all night where I will mix between 10 and 20 grams, apply it and let it set, then add more. The beauty of this stuff is that it bonds to itself, so I can just layer it up as I need.

Actually both are not complete as they will have a liquid silicone applied over the top to smooth and ensure a prefect seal.

cavx as I'm nearing completion on my shoes (waiting for my strap el to
come in so I can make my new straps/tongue/ also waiting for my markpoon decals) I'm wanting to
wear them out when they're done now when I wear them for
comic con I'll be dressed in costume but what do you wear when you wear them out so often? I'm having trouble figuring out if it's suitable
to be wearing them or not

Jeans , chenos but I wouldn't suggest having the lights on and I would pull the trousers over the boot like a normal shoe

Jeans and a tee. Depending where I am going will be the deciding factor as to if I expose the high top or not. If I wear a buttoned shirt with jeans, generally my MAGs will be covered. If I am going to a place like Hogs Breath Cafe, they are on show especially this year.

Right now I can't wear them until I sort this Heel Cup. I do need to make a new insert and might make that using some of that PinkySil Putty. It won't stick to the shoe, so it will be removable and because it has a shore hardness of just A25, nice and soft. I should also make some arch supports too.

So discrete hey? If my shoes get exposed to bright light or the sun when I go out, then the lights are ON.

Yea personal preference
As said, depends on where I am at the time.

Molds are done :)

So what I have done here is to make a flap top which I pre-lubed one side of the top rim with Vaseline. The silicone only sticks to itself whilst in gel state. Once it turns solid, I can wash the excess Vaseline off and know it can't stick down and bond. Not that it matters if I leave the vaseline on as a little release agent is a good thing on molds like this.
