Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

About time i did some to mine today, both el soles now done, both toe mods done and reglued, reworked the ankle leds today.

For the uk boys if your attempting a loctite vinyl and fabric glue to do a seam line i came up a blank finding this in the uk, but i did have a breakthrough...... A tube of shoe goo will give the same result if its injected on or wire tipped bottled on.

Since everyone else has posted a couple of build pics ill do a selection of where im at

Im opting for 9v in mine, and fully wearable

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

yeah, those small white ones are the ones i got, however they still stick out a bit.

there's too much foam in there, and there is no way to get it out unless you completely open that cuff, and then restitch it.

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

fantastic

what inverter are you using? big 9v or thin 9v?

also, how thick is that styrene plastic you are using?

the original v2 board is about 1mm,
with a thicker board, does it stick out and can you feel it when on feet?

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

I wonder if you can ask the sellers to get you a pair without the finger holes cut out and sewn. It bothers me that they are way off to being the right shape. I'd like to get a pair without that done so I can cut it out myself to the correct shape. That would be the only thing left to make these even more accurate.

Its half a thickness more, it wont be felt as there is a spnogey surface on the shoe as it is, i currently have the smallest 9v invertor i can find in the uk, same one i used on my poons, so i dont mind extending the battery hole another 10mm down....theres plenty of room to play with. Im also running judcos when i get them wired.

I went with a .5mm thicker board to ensure these no flex on the leds so there will be no fear of solder coming apart, its also covered in epoxy on the back

You could put the switch on the other side of the foam so it's is closer the the outside of the cuff. The button would be behind the foam, so it would protrude much less or none at all. Could you try this and tell us the results?

good idea,
but these buggers are stitched to death. its a real pain in the ass getting the switch in there in the first place and then pushing the wires inside. very fiddly and just not very pleasant!

the only way to fit the switch nicely and properly like the originals, is to basically fully open the entire upper cuffs, cut some of the foam out, and then place the switch in there, then stitch it back, and glue it back.

im not going to bother on these, i think thats as good as you can get them.

i actually popped some of the spongy foam out, its just basic spongy foam, blue colour.

i have similar foam lying around which i got from a sofa shop.

Looking good Who45!

I did a tweak to the box today, I was getting annoyed with taking the cover off all the time so I decided to add a magnetic front piece and glued the back of the box to the lid.

Let me know what you all think!

For people who want some sort of a template for the EL in the midsole.

I've seen a few people have the wrong shapes, so I hope this helps. You can also see how thin the connection is between the two parts.

24 MIXED LEDS – MAPLIN CJ68 TO CJ70 (I AM TRYING TO SOURCE 12V 3MM LEDS ONLINE TO MAKE ORDERING FROM WORLD WIDE MEMBERS EASIER, AS MAPLIN IS A U.K COMPANY)

I found what you're looking for.
12 Volt LED
All of the LEDs that you need for 1 pair of shoes comes to $11.35 USD.

I also just ordered most of the materials for Taff's 9v rechargeable setup to mod my own pair when I get them. Thank you Taff for making this soooo much easier.:thumbsup The things I didn't order today were the rechargeable batteries, the cuttable EL sheet, the inverters and the LEDs. I'll get wires and solder locally. My shoes will be a gift from my father for my birthday on the 22nd of April. Earth Day :) They should arrive around that time. Lucky for me because I wouldn't be able to afford to buy the shoes and the modding materials.

No problem, glad it has helped :)

Thank you for linking the LEDs, I've just ordered 25 of each colour at a great price, let me edit the shopping list post with these LEDs.

Could you possibly make a diagram or post pictures on the wiring for your 9v setup? Having a rechargeable setup makes it so there a ton of wires going everywhere and a guide would be super helpful. But seeing how much work and help you've already contributed, I would understand if you weren't up to it.

Wore my Marty costume to Wondercon today. I had so many photos taken, it was incredible. Of course everyone asked about the MAGs. Here are a couple of people's Instagram photos:

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

I'm planning on re-doing the strap. Following Brad's tutorials on YouTube, he uses a hair dryer to peel the strap into 2 pieces. What kind of glue should I use to re-glue the strap back together?

I use the Super 77 spray glue, then run a little bit of Loctite along the top and bottom edges. That keeps the two halves together for ever.

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

I just use Jedifyfe's diagram(12v LEDs and no resistors) and then add this (i posted this a few pages back):-

Thank you :) I do have one question though. Does the negative wire going to the little black piece have to go all the way down to the bottom circle part, or can it be soldered anywhere on the terminal?
