Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

Sorry how about this? If its not good or need a different angle let me know.

Yes tactile switches usually have four connections (one in each corner) however the switches on the v2 only have two.

The factory who makes the shoes confirmed one cable leads to the battery and the other goes to the LEDs.

I tried to re-use this switch on my modded pair but this type of switch only turns the PCB board on, it won't stay on by itself (once you push it).

Yeah most tactile switches are momentary ones.

So on the PCB will be a circuit that senses when that switch is pressed and either turns on or off the power.

When you hook your EL panel up you will find that unless you can find the output part of the power on the PCB itself then the unit will only turn it on but not turn it off.

There might be a way round that by just replacing the switch for a tactile ON/OFF version but I cannot be 100% sure.

Can anyone be 100% sure where those wires actually run too?

My past experience, I hooked up my el to the switch and as you said it only turns on all the lights, It does not turn them off..

Well my source told me the two positive cables on the switch runs one cable to the battery and other to the LEDs, starkid might be able to tell us as he stripped the upper completely off the midsole.. Still no word of him though how he's getting on :(

I'm starting to think your right in just chopping off the switch already there and soldering a new one, if I can get chance tonight ill give it a go, can always solder it back on if it doesn't work.

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

Just found starkids posts and had a quick look.

They do seem to have a PCB on there and probably a really simple circuit to sense when that momentary switch is pressed.

I dont think that by putting a normal on off switch in would work depending on the circuit they are using...it might do more damage then good. Probably using a FET of some sort and switching it to ground to turn the FET on/off to enable power for things on board.

Thats why when you hook upto it on the switch side it lights things up for you but not turn them off. If you could find the place to hook into it PCB side or after the sense circuit that would work.

17p for a tactile on/off switch rated at 50ma.

Here is a shot of the PCB board they use. There is a coin battery on the backside of it...

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

Ill be honest I am not the best at electrics, as a engineer I can work things out and solve problems to a certain extent but this is kinda out of my league but willing to learn and help.

This is the switch I use for my black mags, I am not sure if this would be acceptable if soldered to v2 pcb board as you stated?

Awesome thanks Brad! Really love it how we are all trying to get this sorted as a team :)

hi brad

what switch did you replace the existing one with for your new wire setup on the v2s?

do you have a picture of the back of your v2 switch as it is now?
i think you said you replaced everything and used your own wiring setup with 9v battery.

i think Lukebryncz last time recommended we get Judco switches as they are very flat and thin.

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

Well the circuit is now built..

Nice huh?

Possibility I might need to use a slightly larger inductor on the circuit (ie physically larger). It depends what Voltage range I want to make it work on. So just have to wait and see what happens.

damn, that looks crazy!
put me in too for about 8 or 10 of them!

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

Brad which of those wires runs upto the switch? The blue/green ones?

It's actually one of the white wires I believe.

Yes I used the Judco 987 switch. I kept it running out the back since there is no way to put it in the white part and have it look clean.

fantastic job

yeah, i think because these uppers are stitched very tightly at the top, you would have to carefully open them and somehow put in the switch.

but it sounds like more hassle than its worth.

Besides, i think the way you've done it, just doing a complete rewire is the best option, because lets face it, the EL makes it look a million times better along with the toe fix.

only geeks like us can tell the difference between a heavily modded v2 and the authentics!

truly outstanding job you guys have done.

if that mini inverter thing works out too, it should be so easy then to just hide everything behind the buckle, no need to have batteries hidden in the soles, and we could add charging options for the buckle too.

that would be a superb home run!

I have my inverter, battery and dc charger port in my Cloneprops buckles but if I could reduce the depth/thickness of my inverter with kingtheydon's ones it would make them lighter and more snug of a fit when touching the upper

have you done a total rewire like Jedifyfe?
or are you just powering the EL strap and EL in the soles with the inverter/battery?

and left the LEDS to be powered with the existing v2 wire setup?

is your battery/inverter/charger setup currently ok to power everything, including the LEDs if you wanted to?

im thinking of putting everything in the buckle if possible, and to wire everything, basically the same as jedifyfe, but everything is in the buckle, rather than in the sole.

so mobile battery/3v inverter/dc charger in the buckle, and wires going to the leds, EL in strap and EL in soles.

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

I have two options.. First, wire the existing heel cup LEDs to the Nokia battery I have in the buckles at the moment. Second option just get that switch sorted and use two charger ports which wouldn't bother me tbh, in a way I would be happy with that so long as all the lights went on and off at the same time.

The LEDs run in sequence at 1.5v so it SHOULD be ok to run everything.

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

In theory you could use the circuit I have knocked up and run everything off the 1 internal battery so no need for any extra batteries. Just need to figure out where to tap the power from the internals.

That being said technically 2 inverters would be needed, one for the NIKE EL panel and one for the EL panel (if you use one) in the soles. Although im yet to try that of course.

Depends on current draw of my circuit but initial test earlier on with a test load hooked upto the circuit it pulled less then 10ma which is tiny. It depends on the panel size though.

How big do you think the EL panels in the soles are??

Dammit im gonna have to get my credit card out and order some V2's aren't I!

What are the measurements of EL panel for the NIKE logo?

For the sole EL, here's the screen accurate measurements (or damn close!)

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

With regards to the circuit you made, you still need to attach inverters to it then? Having seen the blue lights on the V2s, I actually kinda prefer it to the aqua on my RDs which is weird!

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

The Circuit I made is an Inverter for ANY EL Panel. It takes a DC input and outputs 160vac to drive EL Panels. So colour of EL panel is irrelevant in a way, the Panel can be any colour you want.

Normal inverters are quite large coils basically. I think Taff has a photo of them in here somewhere in his buckles.

The idea of this circuit is to replace those bulky inverters.

Basically for the circuit I have knocked u to work you just connect say 5v dc anywhere from 1.8v to 5.5v but im yet to determine finalize which voltage it will run on, whether that be from a new battery, again like Taff has in his buckles or the one in there already (if possible).
