Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

Parcel of goodies turned up just now from Taff. :)

Il hook things up later on and see how things go.

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

Initial results are........IT WORKS :)

Need to tweak the circuit slight to make the panel brighter but that was expected.

Pics and info later as its too light to get decent piccies.

Awesome! Keep us posted and don't forget to post a pic of the inverter, I want to see your one side by side, I gotta see how much smaller your inverter truly is :)

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

Hey Taff I bought that el panel you recommended, it says it comes with the inverter, but how are you running it off of your cell phone battery? How does it get the right voltage?

Chuck the inverter that comes with the panel, buy a 3v one and that's how you know it gets the right voltage. Check a few pages back I posted a wiring diagram about all this.. The diode for charger only runs through te positive side though, not the negotive.

A Few pics for people...What you reckon??

First off size comparison

And working. Excuse poor lighting and remember at the minute this isn't final as I need to tweak some values on the PCB in a little while.

And another one to show proof im using the circuit I made and not cheating! :)

Amazing work don!! When you have that working on the V2s so you can still charge them, you're onto a winner. I would happily pay good money for you to mod mine :thumbsup

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

Here's a quick V2 toe slim guide for those interested.

First, use a stanley knife to gently cut just inside the rubber edge. You will need a lot of patience here and a steady hand to cut down about 1cm to begin to see the fabric.

You only need to cut down about 1cm then begin to use a flathead screwdriver to pry away the fabric from the inside sole. Don't worry if some sticks to the sole as you will be folding down the fabric inside anyway. The fabric is stitched to the insole, so you will need to carefully cut these threads with the blade as you go around.

Once you have unpicked the fabric from the insole, you can then mold it further underneath the insole, thus slimming the toe! You can't go too far as it doesn't stretch as well as the markpoons so you want to avoid a gap at the front of the shoe! About 1cm underneath will do. You then need to the use the following to get a perfect bond.

20130126161418.jpg

You need to use the gel superglue to fill in most of the area underneath the insole. Put your hand in the shoe to push down over the toe area and wait for bond in about 30seconds. Then you need to pry away the remaining rubber from the front of the shoe to use the brush and apply small and even amounts of superglue to the top lip and repeat in small areas around the front of the shoe. You need a steady hand here to avoid brushing superglue to the fabric showing! Here's a comparrison shot after the first one was done:

Here's the final images! The finish is actually better than the factory glue :lol

It totally transforms these V2s and gets rid of that awful moonboot look. WELL worth the time and effort.

fantastic

so all we have to do is cut about 1cm down and just pull the toe down further and glue?

im going to give these mods a go soon when i get some.

does the toebox have anything inside it like the V1s which is giving it the moonboot look? the v1 had some sort of thin plasticky type curved piece which gave the toe its boot structure.

Yup for 1cm, nope for anything inside it. It's just thicker material inside.

@lukebrynycz

Thanks so much for that tutorial! Very informative and helpful! :)

It's much appreciated. It's nice to see people helping each other instead of just show and tell.

I can assure you I haven't missed one page of any of the mag threads. Ha. I saw your diagram, I was just curious as to which you use. Also check that pm about charger. Thanx

Re: Nike Mag V2 mod discussion and builds

About the toe mod - once this is done do you think the shoe loses integrity? I want to be able to wear these out and about - but also do the toe mod.

Thoughts from those that have done this?
