Nick your the man! Thank you so much for that :)

I'm just the messenger. Hopefully you're able to work some new magic on your Mags with the help of that schematic.

There's seriously going to come a time in the not too distant future -- if all you guys keep going at your current pace -- where even some of the more knowledgeable people here might mistake a pair of replicas for the real deal...and that would be so awesome.

I'm hoping to finally grab a pair to start working on, myself, sometime this summer. You guys have already paved an incredible path, I can't wait to follow in your footsteps.

-Nick

EDIT: as I kept clicking around, I found this circuit which seems to be even closer to the RD Mags functionality. Just replace the Zener Diodes with ones for the proper voltage for your circuit and integrate this into the charging circuit such that it only completes this circuit while plugged in and we might have a winner. Electronics whizes tell me what you think.

This is the heart of my 9 volt battery mod. It hides inside the tounge, and provides all the necessary connections to various components. I went totally modular here and took advantage of all the 2 way connectors that came free with my EL Panel/Inverter purchases. The best part is that it provides the connection for recharging!!

Nick your on the ball today! I will look into this next week and try to get this working, thanks again for sharing!

Does anyone know if the real mags do the following when charging:-

Red LEDs light up when at 25% battery life
Green LEDs light up at 100% battery life

Or the yellow LEDs light up for 50% battery life as well?

Robert your setup looks great! I used clips when I was running the batteries in the buckles made it so easy to disconnect the setup if I had a problem.

Nice mod robert, id be interested to see how those connectors can be hidden to allow the shes to be wearable, even the loom itself ends up to be alot under the sole to only just get away not feeling it underfoot.

Great idea tho if its simply a loom for display only

Hey guys first time poster can i just say your shoes all look fantastic!

EDIT*

so i found the answers to my first question.

so when i get my shoes i think like most people the first mod will be the toe cap but when it comes to the el nike strip does anyone have a tutorial on how to rewire everything ( with a 9v setup) or would it be easier for a non techie to just have it running on its own supply?

i have had some limited wiring experiance before ( with my arcade machine )

Red LEDs flash steadily at just over 1 second intervals while charging.
When fully charged Green LEDs are solidly illuminated.
Yellow LEDs not involved in charging state.

This keeps getting pushed back and no one is answering it. DL4567 needs help and wants to know how to get the kink out of the side of the shoe when slimming the toe. I'm just trying to help him out.

RobertTX, does your mod only work when putting the electronics in the toe? Because it looks like if they were anywhere else that you would feel them.

you definitely can't have those female to male connectors on your wire connections under your feet, you would have to change them or hide them somehow.
You can keep the one behind the buckle (good idea Robert!) though.

I like the buckle one, you can disconnect it and remove it when you want if need be, rather than the soldered wire just hanging going into the back.

ive just slapped all the wires soldered together under the soles, and the foam inserts go ontop, you can't feel them at all.

for those who've been modifying,

what glues have you used to glue back the heel cups?

i tried Loctite brush on and Loctite powerflex gel and both were rubbish.
They barely even stick. Utterly useless and a rip off. The powerflex gel is only 3g and is a rip off.

So i then had to go to the local Wickes, bought some £2 Contact Adhesive (in a tube) and put a bit on the heel cup and the fabric, waited 15 minutes, then stuck both together and instantly glued.

From my experience, those Loctites are rubbish for the heel cup.
Probably be ok for the toe mod though and the clear soles.

What are you guys using for the clear soles when glueing back? loctite powerflex gel or standard loctite brush on?

how do you plan to hide the connectors? unless you shove them to the side somehow, your feet will be touching them.

It will be interesting to see how you do this, because if you can, then it certainly makes the wiring a lot lot cleaner.

At the moment, the current wiring system is a complete mess and difficult to arrange, especially in the shoe.

I don't use the Gel or Brush On. I use the standard liquid Loctite that sets is 5 seconds and it work perfect for everything on these shoes.

including the heel cup?
are you putting glue just under the heel cup or onto the fabric also?

i tried loctite powerflex gel and a brush on loctite but none of them worked.

im not sure whats the equivalent of the loctite you are using.

these bloody loctites have about 50 different versions.

anyways, for now, i ended up using some contact adhesive, put some under the heel cup and some on the fabric and it seems to have worked.

what do you call the little plastic bottle with the thin needle end which you use for going around the edges with extra glue?

lol Liquid is just another name for regular super glue. I use both fabric glue and the super glue on my BTTF II jackets from the brand. Really good quality.

This is the stuff Jedifyfe uses.

im trying to figure out though, how the hell the heel cup was stuck if that stuff dries in 5 seconds?

its a fairly big area to glue over under the heel cup, fairly awkward as well.

ill have a look for some standard glue, but in Uk loctite pimps out standard to about 50 different varieties

You know what I find kind of strange? During the promotional stuff for the RD MAGs, Michael J. Fox has never been seen wearing them. You would think that the first person ever to wear them in a movie would wear official ones released by Nike.
