Any pictures yet?
Do you mean of the new HC smooth-side shoe? If so, no.
They won't change the website picture until all the ribbed shoes are gone. I will post pics in the HC topic if I end up getting a smooth-side pair.
Please do as many of us won't touch them until they improve them.
I don't think they would do anything about the ear/collar height without a significant amount of suggestions/complaints. A letter-writing campaign of sorts.
I do occasionally wonder about how I could mod the shoe and raise the collar. I'm actually mostly okay with it, but if I could do it without too much trouble I would.
If they are removing the ribs, it is probably more of a cost cutting exercise (results in less materials being used per shoe) over an improvement to make these better.
A letter-writing campaign won't ever happen because everyone that bought these shoes (apparently) can't tell the difference between the HC and RD. There have been posts made by owners of the HCs that state they can't tell the difference even with side by side images. Either they are blind or ignorance truly is bliss.
If you want to see the difference for yourself, print yourself a copy of the official MAG patterns on paper where the sole is the same size as your shoe size, then fold up the upper to see just how much taller than a HC it really is. It is quite significant not just 1/4". You can't really "fix" the HC upper to be more accurate unless you make a scratch made upper and replace the original. And it is trouble working out the seams.
As far as upper modding, I was only referring to heightening the collar. Not a whole accuracy upgrade. But I might be persuaded to print that out and check it. What size paper does that pattern need? I might be able to print that at home.
The size 10 HC mag is about 8.5 - 8.75 inches to the tops of the collar ear points if I hold the ears vertical and don't let them splay out.
The sole is about 12 inches long.
@KingKolton9, Welcome to the forums.
WOW $210 is good price. Most of paid $250 per pair. The main seller (Karen Chen) we all trusted no longer sells these.
Jediyfe has done the most in the way of tutorials and why he is known as the "Mod Father" of these shoes.
I did the steam toe slim video (You-Tube under cavx01) and also showed a full tear down to do a sock toe slim. I am also responsible for the clear sole project and GITD rubber (fake EL) kits, not the GITD paint kits.
Really not sure which sellers to trust now.
The real NIKE MAGs have small pyramids on the soles as tread. The V2s have the same waffle pattern (that is on the side of the sole) on their thread. You can't just glue the matting I used to make my master to the base as 1. it is not clear 2, it is PVC and won't grip like the rubber I am using.
I used the waffle on the sides and added a pyramid mat to the base. I molded the part in silicone and then poured elastomer into the molds. I also had to buy a vacuum chamber to be able to degas or you end up with a part full of bubbles.
I was never able to get a good casting using Shoe Goo. It is air curing and as it sets, it heats up and that warped the PVC mat even when glued to a hard surface. I also had issues with trapped air in the Shoe Goo. I have never placed it in a vacuum to see if the air will pull out. It is gel thick, so I'd be surprised if it degassed properly or at all. Also, how do you tint the Shoe Goo? If you mix a resin tint into it, just just mix in air.
To get proper catings you need to ad 2 holl's 1 for casting your material and on your top casting you need to make a small hole (1mm max 3mm or elles your resin flouds out) tumble your casting for 3 minute's while its still liquid your casting release's airbubble's that without a breating hole will be trapped in your mold, so with one extra hole's your casting will be alot better
New smooth-side HC mag pics are up....
