No you can do it that way. Just cut the white part off cleanly, carefully dremel the remaining fabric/glue from the grey midsole, then reglue it back down

That's perfectly fine.

Sometimes when you are seperating the toes, some of the grey fabric can stay stuck to the grey soles.

Just trim your grey fabric as required and just glue back using the loctite.

You can try and cut off the grey bits that are left on the soles, or you may be able to rip them off by hand if you can grab enough of the fabric, sometimes it just comes off. The are glued down though very solidly, so you could either leave them or do what Jedifyfe says, and dremel some of it off.

So far, i haven't done so on any pairs that i've had modified.

I just trim the grey fabric and just glue it back down.

Since i'm going over the edges with shoegoo, its not really a major issue.

The loctite is solid.

Am I doing the toe mod correctly? I tried to follow Brad's tutorial on YouTube , but wasn't able to successfully separate the upper from the sole like he was. On his, it is cleanly separated where the gray t-shirt material was not removed in any way. On mine, I wasn't able to separate it cleanly like that (see pic #2 below.) I still have t-shirt material glued into the rubber sole, as it was simply cut away from my butter knife.

Did I screw up this pair? Was I supposed to use a blowdryer first to make the glue softer or something?

Phew! Thanks guys.

Does the Loctite shoe goo stuff that goes over the edges dry clear? Or will it stain the t-shirt material of the shoe?

what was the point of replacing the battery?

the whole wiring that comes with the shoe is dreadful, its a waste of time trying to change anything of the existing wiring.

the only thing its good for is to be ripped out and chucked in the garbage can.

I agree with you the WHOLE SYSTEM in there is GARBAGE!!!!!! ...that particular shoe the batt died and stopped holding a charge... and I don't have the time to mod them because I am not going to mod just one I would have to do both shoes if that was the case.... so I figure I would sell them but I can't sell a pair with one working shoe.....now granted who ever buys them may just end up ripping it all out anyway and modding them .... but if that is not the case then they would need 2 working shoes...plus I just wanted to see if I could do it ....I have a modded pair finished already and I just don't have the time to do these.....so instead of them sitting in my closet I am just prob going to sell them...

You want to use one of those needle applicators, and carefully put a thin bead only where the fabric meets the grey sole. Do NOT accidentally get any on the fabric other than where it meets the sole, because you can't clean it off perfectly. Same goes for the Loctite. It will leave a wet looking stain.

Ok, attempted my first mod today and completed my first toe mod on one shoe. What a scary experience at first. lol I really like that experience feeling you get from accomplishing something like this. Although not at all perfect, I think I'll be able to make the 2nd shoe a lot more precise. The glueing part takes some getting used to, and the Loctite goo stuff is where I need to improve on.

Thanks again for the help today!

I was just wondering, has anyone had any luck trying to make the 'wings' or whatever they're called look more similar to the RD's where the grey material is the same or thicker than the white collar tip?
(toe mod lookin good Mcabrera, your pic was a good example hence why i borrowed, hope you dont mind)
Does anyone think we might be able to try gluing some foam behind this piece to 'pad it out' ?
Or has anyone tried?
To my mind that area is one of the major points that distinguishes the replicas from the RDs at first glance.
I was wondering how much extra material there might be behind there before I experiment with removing the stitching....
Also, if anyone wants the 'wings' to have a bit more stiffness to them, it is possible to sew in some thin plastic to the inner of the shoe - for my first experiment I used 2 layers of a clear plastic binder material glued together, so the 'stiffener' is only 2mm thick. Doesn't seem too uncomfortable, but have yet to wear them out for a few hours to see how it goes. The best place for it would be between the layers so it's more hidden, but I'm no seamstress so i went with minimum sewing.... haha.
Oh, also, I'm still searching for the 'right colour' of grey fabric paint to try repainting the midsole, for those of us who let our first pairs get too much sun and go yellow..... will update if I can get the colour close enough.

you are wasting your time if you are trying to change the top section.

its impossible to do anything with them.

you can't get the same grey fabric as its a specific fabric made in china, and the shape is incorrect by being too big, so there is virtually nothing you can do to change this.

you just have to live with it.

alternatively, you can make your own uppers from scratch.

thats the only way to do it, unless the factory comes out with a corrected version which seems highly unlikely.

Hi guys,

I asked Chen about the Mag´s centimeters for bigger sizes, and this it what he told me:

"Size US 10 is about 28cms.Size US 11 is about 29cms.Size 12 is about 30cms.But this pair of shoes some buyers said it's run a little bigger."

Do any of you has the MAG 12? I wear Nike 12 size and don´t know what size fits better for Mag´s.

Many Thanks

Go half a size smaller and you should be fine. I normally run a US10 NIKE and the US9.5 MAG is perfect for me.

It's called wire tape. Check eBay for it. It's normally used in doll houses to wire them for electicity in their VERY thin walls.

When separating the icy soles from rubber sole to install the larger EL's on the side of the shoe, how are you guys opening it up? Are you using a blowdryer to open up the icy soles? Or are you peeling it back and slicing with an Exacto knife?

I think most of us are just using a hairdryer over the clear soles, then slowly peeling it back.

you can use a butter knife and then once you have a bit of it open, just use your fingers.
it takes a while, as the clear soles can sometimes be quite sticky.

just make sure you don't do it too hot, and don't get the hairdryer anywhere too close to near the grey fabric!

Just hover over the clear soles with the hairdryer and start to peel it, it eventually comes off.

Holy Inverter Delivery!

I ordered lots of 9v inverters in bulk as I needed quite a few.

If I have any spares, I may get rid of some in the junkyard, but I think for now, I will need all of them for some more conversions.

Thanks airair! Your advice definitely worked. It just took a lot of patience and some sore fingers from extreme heat. lol I placed a strip of EL underneath the clear soles and my EL doesn't have the bluish color that many of your Mags have on the pictures posted throughout this thread. Mine is more bluish-green in color.

I purchased the green EL that was listed on page 58 (shopping list), but was wondering if maybe you guys are using a blue EL sheet? Do I have the correct color? What is the color of the EL on the real Mags?

From your picture, it looks fine.

It is aqua (blue-green) which is the correct colour. The one in your picture looks like aqua.

Sometimes it depends on the camera too, on some cameras, the aqua can look more blue, while in others it can look slightly more greenish.

Take a picture of the EL behind the clear soles, see what it looks like, but i'm pretty sure you have the correct aqua EL sheet.
