Nike Mag Markpoon clear sole replacements and ankle bubble

Very cool. Your not kiddin with how bright they are. Well done! You just need to build a TRON suit as well now :lol

It's late Monday night and here it is as promised the video of my Nike (Markpoon) MAGS with clear soles and ankle bubble prototype 1.

Once again these are for my use only. I'm sure there are many flaws on detail, craftsmeship, accuracy oh.. lol and lighting. I just barley put these on for the video so everyone could get a peak of the clear soles. To be honest the whole shoe is still a work in progress but it's all for the love of prop making anwyways. Right? And that's all some of us have since Nike (even though it was for a good cause) let us the "little people" with small pocket change down for the real deals. GODBLESS Markpoon and the many talents here to make our Nike MAGS look 80% like the real deals. I'm praying that on 9/8/15 will be at least $800 a pair with power laces. :confused

I wanted to demonstrate what they look like in all types of lighting and in the dark. I tell you what.... the way I designed these... I don't need a flash light. ROTFL:lol You can even see the lights outside in the daytime(y)thumbsup And the plus of it all... I can wear them for a long time with lights on. Let me put it this way.... from the time a CON would normally start (10:30am-11:00am) clear til after it ends at 6pm. Heck... I'm sure around 8pm they might start going dim?

Oh and I added one "non" canon effect to my shoe. :)

Enjoy!!

Incredible, did you light up the mag strap buckle or is it glow in dark paint?

fantastic work.

and is that el sheet in the soles or led's? they are super bright and fill the whole area, i think these look better than the original lighting!

Yes a TRON costume would look cool with my Nike MAG "Headlights" LOL

I used LED's for the soles and Glow in the dark paint for the buckles.

I actually think the LED for soles is much better than el sheet,

the whole thing lighing up looks so much cooler.

:thumbsup

A question im curious about.

how come certain polyeurathane rubber liquids are toxic and you have to wear a mask, while others are not?

I looked at clone mags videos, and from what i can see, I do not think he wore any mask when making the clear soles for his mag replicas?

He didn't need any for casting the heel cups and ankle straps, yet he does say they are shore A 50 hardness, and if you check the safety requirements on websites, they say to wear mask and not breath this stuff in?

what polyeurathane was he using then?

i'm getting confused now.

Many compound mixtures give off nasty fumes. I specifically searched for a 'safer' solution with the stuff I found. I still recon it will smell bad and it will have to be used in an open, well ventilated space. Certainly not something you would do in the kitchen.

From what I saw on his videos, he has already poured the soles and they are set. I'm sure in his thread he talks about having to wear a mask and have a ventilated room (mechanical fan to extract fumes) with the use of this stuff.

The video of him layering in the MAG and NIKE into the mold does not show his face. I am sure he wore all the required PPE for that.

It would be nice to know as well as I don't think he volunteered that information.

well the thing is, for the ankle buckle strap, he has used Polyurethane Elastomer.

and pours in the liquid without any gloves!

unless this polyerethane was a different type, shouldn't that still be toxic to be near skin?

The safety aspect is putting me off from doing some molding stuff. Since i've never done this stuff before, I would rather research it properly, ensuring all safety aspects before rushing into doing anything.

I'm pretty sure its easily achievable to do what clonemags has done, and you don't even need 3D modelling or printing for it. You can do it by hand sculpting then making the molds.

Can't seem to get any info though from clonemag on what polyerethane he used, still no responses for ages.

Well that will be the same stuff I reported on in my clear sole thread. The guy that sells the stuff said it safe to use at home without specialized equipment.

Can completely understand that.

If you do any sculpting, please post images. My attempts at modding parts for these shoes has become quite frustrating. I am about to start MK2 of the buckle, though I added a small bit today to the first go and it looks pretty cool. If nothing else, these parts will make excellent greeblies for another costume.

I can't work out his plan either. He mentioned his molds being only good for a short parts run, then does not disclose too much information that would be useful. I kind of think he is selling off what he done to pay for the "R&D", then will go into larger production.

Yeah, sure, i'm going to order some skulpty clay and start to make a new heel cup and ankle buckle, try get as accurate as possible and then bake them to harden them.

My computer's old and can't run any 3D software, so it will have to be done the good old fashioned way, by hand. Whether they are good or not will be remain to be seen!

Did some more work on my new ankle buckles on Friday. The more I layer them the better they are looking. I feel that they are a touch too big though.

Where did this thread magically appear from?! Great work there mate. Cheers for the inspirational stuff, I'm sure I speak for all when I say it's much appreciated. If you're willing to do me a set of clear soles for my own replicas feel free to drop me a line. I'd be honoured to attach those to my shoes and make a video review for you!

Thanks lukebrynycz I'm glad you like my soles so far. I'm still in testing so as of right now I'm not doing a run yet cause I want to make sure these look right.

They look fantastic!! Great job man!

Thanks MTB I hope to have another video up soon.

Saw these shoes first hand today at Dallas comic con, And without question the best ones out there. Suck it Nike.

DarthSlicks conversion, I have a pair of MPs I also wore and his blew mine out of the water. The soles are what he really did nail and is what makes his shoe look more like the real deal than anyone with the yellow of dyed blue soles
