NIKE MAG Knockoffs

Are you wanting to display, wear or both?

The best way to fix the collar for a display is to simply add some card board tube that you split down one side. If wearing, then I would have to say that that velcro thing we've seen on the V2s is the way to go as that will be the only thing that will hold the strap on place, because whilst you walk, it tends to slip down and the collar loses that cool shape.

Unless you feel comfortable with a full tear down and build up, I would not worry about the laces. I mean those holes annoyed the hell out of me with my pair right up to the day I sold them. Not an easy fix.

I will wear them. Well I'm planning to go to conventions with them.
Should I maybe glue the foam protection on the back to the shoe? So it will make sure that the strap holds in place?

I've actually another pair of MP shoes. I will try to change the laces on this one first and see how it goes. It's not that i'm incomfortable with them... but, it's not really screen accurate so it bothers me a bit x)!

It's only the slimming toe that is quite scary, I kinda want to do it, but I would be REAALLY annoyed if it does not work out. I've seen a tutorial on youtube, and you have to be really meticulous...

I was wondering too, is there any chance to get the foam back from the chinese replicas? They look to be more accurate x)

To keep the collar straight up just glue in a piece of foam in the back to keep it up. That's what Jedifyfe did.

All done. How does it look? I still have to cut the heel to be thinner and then I'm fully finished. I'm going to leave the other side as is. It doesn't bother me enough to mod it.

Does anyone know how to get slue stains out of the MP upper? Since I cut parts off the mid sole, some glue stains are present.

I'm anxious to see the next 3D model of the MAG and the thread that comes from it. What happened to that?

Hey MitasTouch... I tried again twice this weekend to do a better capture.

Once outside in daylight and once again in the house.

In both attempts I tried to capture the undercuts of the shoe by shooting with a lower angle but for some reason both attempts came out horrible.

I'll try to see if I can clock another attempt later after dinner.

If you are referring to the Ankle Buckle, you can however it makes doing the shoes up a little tricky if the strap should ever come out of the slot.

Maybe you are going so far as to pull them apart, see how they are put together, take patterns from them and just make new uppers without the strap holes. They are made from Lycra, so you use that or find a Spandex. Really depend on what your sewing skills are like.

Yeah it is one part you would not want to mess up on. Having said that, the flat clean toe is formed by a large ellipse where the current toe has a bit of pulling and molding over a toe box, so much more complex IMO.

If someone wants to take a cast off the Chinese shoe, that would be sweet.

Lets hope cloneprops comes through with his new version soon.

Are you able to set up a light so that your captured images are all under the same lighting conditions?

Just a comparison. I think I did good, eh?

Can you post a slightly larger image?

It looks like you have:
1. increased the thickness of the toe
2. changed or reshaped the profile of the clear sole/EL cutouts
3. slimmed the heel.

Looks good.

I actually haven't done anything to the toe. It's just that I took off the yellow soles from one and not the other making the toe rise a little. And sorry, I can't post a bigger picture.

Really? In the image it looks like it has built up slightly and I was hoping you had done that. The RD MAG sole is thicker at the tip than MP, V1 or V2 and when built up, can give the shoe the look of a slimmer toe without the need for toe correction or compromising on the limited space in the toe box.

I guess what you're seeing is a mixture of bad quality and lighting. And the shoes weren't perfectly aligned. I don't plan on thickening that part. It would use too much rubber and it wouldn't turn out even.

Might I suggest running masking tape on the inside lip of the toe and building it up from there. It should not use much of this rubber at all. You only need to build it up maybe 1/8" (3mm) at the centre. You could even cut the tape to shape first and if that has to remain later, it does not matter.

I have making tape in foamies that were super glued where the tape was originally used to hold the join. Of course the tape became stuck from the glue and as it turns out, helps keep the joins flexible. They have not broken since I did them and my feet have in and out of them many times.

The set shot indoors is obviously the same lighting condition.

The set shot outside was shot under an overcast sun.

Both sets had pretty even lighting. I think the issue is in my attempt to shoot really close to the ground plane. I think I'm confusing the app as I am shooting on a pedestal and my camera is effectively registering below the ground in my low shots.

I was just making reference to what cloneprops had said about lighting and shooting from a tri-pod whilst the subject matter is rotated on a turn table. Artificial lighting from inside will be constant, but what about using addition lighting to help high light the undercuts?

I have not used the program you have (I do have it, I think) and what about using a HD (1080P) video camera? I know it is more shots to upload, but don't you then get every angles of the rotation?

Sounds promising. I can't wait to see pics of this "new batch from a different factory."

I don't think there is a V3 coming out at all. I think they will just let these go for what ever they can get for them.

Sure, but even if it's the same shoe, it'll be interesting to compare slight differences between factories.

If they do make any changes (and I'm not holding my breath given the short time) all I'm hoping for is a light-up strap to be added.
