Nike MAG Box

Re: Yellow Nike MAG Box

Here is the e-mail I got from my source.

"The Sticker is 8.8 cm on all for sides of course and there is another square thats outside the sticker which is slightly embedded on the box 9.3 cm on every side. Hope that makes sense."

Probably would have made his life easier if he realized these were made in America... what's all this 'cm' crap? :cool

The sticker is exactly 3 1/2 inches on each side. The box itself is embossed with a square that the sticker is placed inside of, that's the extra measurement he's referring to.

Here's a couple of pics. My shoes are size 7, and the measurements match his, so I'm assuming all the boxes where the same size (which makes sense, but just in case anyone was wondering...)

The sticker is also printed on a heavy stock, sort of like posterboard (but probably a little thinner). It definitely has more thickness to it than the average sticker.

Re: Yellow Nike MAG Box

Hey guys, feel free to use these labels. They are print-ready.

*Edited...again... per MitasTouch's notes.

Sample:

Labels for size 9 and 9.5

Labels for size 10 and 11

Labels for size 12 and 13

Thanks for that. Took the Size 10 and 11 file.

Re: Yellow Nike MAG Box

I don't think the embossed border, or the thickness of the sticker really matters unless you're a stickler for accuracy. But right now we need a template for the box and foam parts.

Re: Yellow Nike MAG Box

Thanks so much for those pictures, Rik! I'll adjust my labels to the exact size when I get home from work today. Also it seems my image hosting site is down at the moment.

*edit: It's back up.

Yeah, I know it's too flat but I was just having fun...

Re: Yellow Nike MAG Box

If I ever make my own box, I'll probably put my own spin on it. My idea is to cover the whole inside with thin sheet metal. I think that will look better than yellow paper and grey cardboard. It's just an idea.

How did I miss all this valuable info?

I'm going to contact a few companies this week to see if they can make these for us, I think the nike logo and mag logo would probably have to be separate, then added afterwards but that's no biggie.

The "sponge" inside is what I need to source as well

Fair play! That would be cool...

lol I don't know. And I'm pretty sure I saw the foam material at a Joanne's Fabrics. I'll go there tomorrow and check. I have Marine workouts which is right down the street from it. Also how would separating the nike and mag logo work out? Would you get the box shipped to you (if this were to actually take off) and you would have to add them yourself at home?

Due to copyright I can't see us getting nike all over the box, might get away with the magnetic anti gravity on it but that would be it, so we would have to get nike stickers sourced elsewhere(at a later date) the boxes would hopefully be bought per piece from the supplier but I'm guessing we would need a minimum order of like 50-100 pieces(hopefully not 1000!!)

I'll try my very best to get the ball rolling this week and post my progress here, keep your fingers crossed!

An alternative would be for you to make them and ship it along with the box. You don't have to go through copyright stuff if you print them yourself.

Haha pretty sure these ended up being made in china or the like.:D

Great project guys, would be good to see this get running.

Quotes sent to 14 companies, lets see what I get back :)

EDIT - Allot of companies say that they can not do a box like this but have forwarded me on to more companies who might be able to help.

I have found this box although i don't think its spot on but i'm definitely on the right track in finding this now

Right progress, i have spoken to a company who are willing to make the box as a exact replica which is excellent, however the rough price at the moment per box is $200..

I will have a exact price though in the near future just the company are apparently on backlog at the moment but have ensured me they will contact me back asap.

So now its time to source the foam inserts in that charcoal/black colour.. the joys! :s

It will be one of those "the more you make, the less each will cost and they will be looking for 1000+ orders to be really cost effective.

I did ask them for 100 units but they told me each box is hand made and they would not be able to make them any cheaper if I bought one or hundred :(

Also they can't start till summer either, I'm awaiting there final price and then from there I have to decide if I will go ahead with it.

I'm starting to think it would be cheaper to just buy the yellow glossy cardboard and work on a pattern in 2D, no doubt though my laziness will get the better of me and I will just order one from them.

This company is very small but unfortunately it's the only ones out of all the quotes I sent that said they could make this.

The quality of there boxes are very good though so it would be a exact replica at the end of the day, it's whether or not that it's worth it :?

Maybe you could order the boxes to be sold so people would build the box themselves. Also a set of instructions lol. Then there would be no labor costs. I'd do it if I bought one. Or if that isn't an option you could get some investors.

What's the price that you guys are looking to get per unit?

In all honesty, the construction isn't that difficult, just very precise and time consuming. I have no doubt it could be done for less than the $200 quoted. It should only come to like $75-100...even with a bonded leather facing on the box. (That's without stickers or foam)

I'll be taking a stab at a box in the next few months, so I should have some better, hands on information then, and should be able to say for sure the sort of price range these should be in.

But honestly, the way forward is likely the artisanal route, anything with a minimum order is just going to kill us with up front and overhead charges since they have factories to keep open/pay for.

it would also cost less to post a flat pack than a box because (and I assume US Post is the same) postal companies charge for both weight and volume, so a flat pack can generally only be charged out on weight.

Yes. I think the best way would be to sell the boxes as kits. Cost effective and simple. Mostly likely the people buying would be skilled enough to build it themselves anyway if they're serious enough to get an accurate box. It's almost a guarantee that the people right now who are modding their own pair(s) will want a box, including me. Another thing that you could do is sell different versions.

1. Flattened box, sticker, uncut foam inserts (Include a template for their size of shoe)
2. Flattened box, sticker, pre cut foam inserts
3. Assembled box, sticker, pre cut foam inserts
4. Completed box.
You would just charge them for the labor of assembling and stuff. Also the box for the charger can be optional for these. If there is demand for it.

But if this does succeed, be careful on who you sell to. They might buy the box and use it to fool people on ebay that the V2s they have are the real thing.
