Ok Everyone, no pictures, but a big update, as i continue trying to complete modeling the parts, my 3d printer arrived the other day, i finally got it assembled, and tomorrow, i'll begin printing a half scale version of the helmet as a test. i will be updating the thread as i get it printed out.

Well… it’s a rough print, but it tells me the pieces would fit, haven’t printed the reveal pieces, but for some reason on the mini print, the supports stick too much to the print, so I may eventually have to print a full sized version for some real tests, but just a small thing for now. I don’t have the necessary means for sanding at the moment, so it’s hard to really smooth it out for now.

Awesome print. Even with the roughness of the layers, the face looks really good

Check out this channel on how to best fill the layer lines:

I seriously HATE sanding PLA, but I'd love to take a run at a full-scale version of that! You absolutely nailed it!

As Halliwax questioned, and I'm thinking, alluded to, is that you can use power tools to sand PLA. I sand with a palm sander using 150 grit initially, then go down to less coarse sandpaper afterwards. You just have to ensure that you take breaks when sanding so that the PLA doesn't start melting. Small areas, like on the Vader helmet, will still require hand sanding, but you can lessen that amount by taking a rounded rasp file to some curved parts which takes down the ridges quickly.

Exactly, once I switched over to the mouse sander that I see many YouTubers use, boy what a life saver

120 then 220 it makes a world of difference

They were pretty inexpensive too at harbor freight

Saves you a ton of time
