Life-Sized Vader: Jazwares

Let the odyssey begin...

Took the plunge on the Jazwares suit and a display mannequin.

While this will never reach the limits of Gino or similar works, the price, factoring the quality, and a modicum of experience with 1:1 figures and physiques, I believe this is a best option / approach for budget-conscious Vader fan.

I opted for a 6'6" athletic mannequin from Mannequin Mall.

There have been nods towards their 6'5" model with the raised fist (holding a dumb bell in their marketing images), but I wanted as near 6'7" as I could.

The figure is good, but not great - still has "mannequin weirdness" in the proportions.

While adequately tall, and "built", it is still too skinny in the legs and lower torso; all modifications I will make or correct. Will add a one-inch spacer in the waist, and pad the figure with green sheet foam from Joann, as I did my T-800 terminator.

The pose is not horrible, but the arms really are too straight / close in to the body...

Anyway...

Pics are of a "dress rehearsal" (or a sight-read for you musicians).

An initial fitting to assess the suit and the fit...

More commentary to follow later...

The suit is good; am told its far better than the Rubies, but I have not seen that one in person...

The pleather is convincing enough, especially for those not wanting or able to drop a couple grand (or more) for genuine leather parts.

The components are indeed "plasticy" and - though they look right - they feel toy-like. Again, for the budget conscious and / or a Vader fan, but not THE Vader fan (Gino!), the are sufficiently good.

The chest armor is notably thin; may use Apoxie Sculpt to create a thicker leading edge. Also had two areas of overspray of the gun metal color.

The helmet, while it looks good and is sized correctly, is the most toy-like of the three or four Vader helmets I have had. Very thin plastic, very light-weight (which is actually good for a mannequin so it is not top-heavy).

Tusks are painted silver; grills are not well executed...

The adjustable band on the face mask, however, combined with the egg-head mannequin head, allows the helmet to be posable. The dark lord can gaze down upon you menacingly...

Gloves are barely acceptable; and I may relace them.

Cod piece is close to trash; will almost certainly be creating my own with real leather.

My Jazwares kit is an XL. It fits the 6'6" figure well, but the cod piece and primary belt are too big; will need to modify.

Ok this is gonna be exactly what i wanted to see of the Jazwares suit, I think this build is gonna look awesome but i agree, it almost looks a little bit big on this already large mannequin.

Also, is that an IN BOX MR Davy Jones chest I see? Colour me envious!

Am a bit disappointed in the pose - once dressed it a bit too "wooden". Arms to straight to the sides; stance too narrow...

Everything else I can work with (padding, adding a bit of height, etc.)

Well... It IS the chest and it IS in the box, but has been displayed and repacked, and has peeling paint (for no known reason).

Already considering this one:

It is cited at 70" at what appears to be the chin, so I'm presuming its basically the same build / height minus the head (and a better pose). All other mods (padding, adding height) can still apply.

I would likely use the same / current torso (with head) for this project, with the arms and legs of the one linked in this post.

Then the current legs & arms (or maybe new posable arms), and the new headless torso would be used for a life-sized Indiana Jones (for which I already have a painted head / bust).

For Indy though, would require "surgery" to the mannequin to lose 5" of height...

Bringing this forward (just so its here), from 2006...
