new USA made Godzilla film

I hate relaunch, revamp, revitalize, revive, remake, redo.... Are the people in the movie business that brain dead that they can't come up with any new ideas? A new creature design, unexpected origin, surprise ending, new heroes? I need a moment to regurgitate.

Godzilla is the king of sequals and reboots long before that kind of thing became
so overdone like today.
Maybe I am used to it over the decades for Godzilla.
I would be happy if they pulled it off and impressed the long term fans.
They should consider letting the Japanese have strong involvement.

Do the big Godzilla that LOOKS like the guy in the suit but do it with CGI and blow the **** out of ****. I'll be there.

I watched the last US one and didn't see Godzilla at all. I did see the Seinfeld cast. Broderick played Jerry, with his ex-girlfriend, and the tall crazy kameraman, and a few people playing George.

I'd be okay with a CG Godzilla as long as it can capture the spirit of this clip:

If only this clip could be made into a whole film! It's all there. The Japanese know how to do it. The chances of Hollywood matching just this clip have got to be small.

Loved the close-up on the guy's fists shaking, then the pan up his body as he rages at Godzilla - a typically refreshing eastern intensity and madness that I'd love to see in a modern 'zilla film, but which Hollywood could never deliver, by it its very nature. Instead, we'd probably get 'uh, run, definitely run,' or some such worn out BS. And the clip proves that a cgi Godzilla can look like the old-time Godzilla. Hollywood should just give these guys some money to do a whole film and spare us any more clueless ****-ups like the first US one.

Okay that clip sold me.

I think any further American version should stay away from a serious attempt and stick with a different angle, like a mockumentary about the making of a godzilla movie. Kinda like that flick with Mark Wahlberg about the porn industry. Give us an interesting perspective into the people that actually take the time to make monster movies.

Yeah, that clip was pretty cool. The Japanese haved tweaked the design from time to time, so I don't mind some tweaking here and there. As fun as the rubber suit is, I think CGI can convey more "realism" in his movements. Look at that clip. His neck moved more in the clip than in all the Godzilla movies I've ever seen put together. So, it CAN be done, but will it? We'll see.

All the rubber suit knocking, has anyone watched the millenium series movies? Final Wars had some of the best suit work ever, mixed with just enough CGI to keep it looking good.

I really think they need to keep the film gritty, realistic, and as story driven as possible. Keep it as far away from mindless stereotypical hollywood blockbuster status as possible. Give us characters we can care about, not the generic band of misfits who band together to stop the creature (e.g., the paint-by-numbers hero, the computer nerd, the tough guy, the comic relief).

And I agree that we need a CGI creature, but base the CGI on the iconic suit design. Make it as recognizable as possible, and stray away from new interpretations like the ridiculous square-faced albino t-rex.

I know people here say "leave godzilla to the Japanese," buit I honestly didn't enjoy the last batch of "modern" godzilla films released in Japan. They were all too bizarre and felt like episodes of Power Rangers. I think Hollywood can do a good job if they get a really good story and don't give it to a director like Roland Emmerich or Michael Bay, and instead give it to someone like Neill Blomkamp, who (seems, at the moment) to know how to balance story with spectacle.

Godzilla Final Wars was a mess indeed.
The modern era often had some silly content, sometimes it's part of the charm.
But yeah, ditch the pyschic girls, fairy princesses and future time travelers.

Then other times it's stunning how incredible they can be...

Godzilla must be right-out-of-hell, and at the same time there is this sympathy for him as a unique and magnificent creature. At the end of the first film, it's hard to watch him die even after all the concern of how to stop him. It doesn't feel like a victory for humanity. Something is there to grieve. Godzilla has a soul.
A good writer should understand that.

If this does happen you can rest easy knowing that Hollywood will "tweek" Godzilla so much he'll be hardly recognizable. Legendary and Warner will want to sell their own toys - Heaven forbid a kid being able to pick up any old Godzilla toy and associate it with the new film. Godzilla will be overdone the same way the Superman Returns suit was.

I remember when Ted and Terry's script was on the hot table and Jan De Bont was helming - they tossed it in favor of Emmerich and Devlin's crapfeast.
