For the longest time I had this idea of combining the PADD and the desktop Trek PC. I thought it’d be great to have a detachable PADD/computer screen with a keyboard base to mount interchangeable screens/PADDs too. Kind of a more efficient take-your-work-with-you design.
Sitting around this last weekend, bemoaning the cold weather (which is keeping me out of my garage for my bigger projects) I was looking at some scrap styrene, old paint, and got an idea. Four hours later my first draft of this Trektop Computer/PADD was born.
The ‘screen’ is one of those clear hard plastic sheet holders you see in offices. I put a sheet of gray cardboard in it on one side and one of my graphics I made in illustrator on the other, and then dressed it up with various black and metallic tapes.
The base is made of MDF painted gray and dressed with various tapes.
The ‘keypad’ is a graphic I made on illustrator printed n regular paper and laid under a sheet of clear acrylic.
The ISO rod and ISO chip receptacles are styrene covered in metallic tape.
