You didn't explain at all why Chinese leather was bad. You just made a sweeping statement. That may account for for the responses you get when you say, "can wear leather...just not from China...I belong to PETA."
I asked a pointed question as you wearing leather runs counter to what PeTA stands for, or have they decided leather is fine now as long as leather wearers send in money?
I have seen the videos and have seen them attributed to Brazil, India and Pakistan so who really knows? Maybe that leather's bad too. That's a practice that occurs elsewhere and not just China. This was the same argument about Mink farming in the early 80's here in the US. It was Juvenile Harp Seals in the early 90's in Canada.
Don't want break it to you but, if you care about that sort of thing, then no leather should be ethical to you. My Aunt bought raw Chicken at Christmas with her PeTA emblazoned check. Just as ironic as the leather wearing.
If that is an issue Vinyl will be easier to learn on and work, cheaper to get and there's a bunch of it now that looks really close to kid and garment leather.
