Hello!

As some of u now i was planning this a long time. Seen the fact that my last(first) pred was a succes (thats what i thought), i think its time for a new one thats gonna be billion times better.

Ok im getting started on preparing. This is what i got so far:

-Lots and lots of Elder reference photo's

-Lots and lots of free time(in a week or two)

-and this:

Btw thats the 1st pred on the photo (just for size but thats it for the people who havent seen it)

So the things i need to know before i start:

I need a sort of clay. Question to u:

What kind of clay do i have to use!!! Oil based? went to a hobby shop today said to the shop holder:

Ik zoek klei op olie basis! (im looking for oil based clay)

He never heard of oil based clay.. (or am i wrong???)

2nd Question:

As u can see i bought a foam head...

Im afraid that if i buy clay that needs to be baken the whole thing wil melt and collapse..

Damnit!!!

Should i use this or do you think i should use something else? (if yes, what?)

I hope that you can help me out making me another fabulous predator!

Yeah but the problem with plasticine is that u cant bake it;)

it wil never get hard...

And with the melting i meant the foam head.

Here is what i did I hope it helps.........
i made a cast of my head... using help of one of my friends.....he wrapped my head with bandages, then with duct tape....make sure the wrapping is thick enough because u need to pour plaster of paris to make a cast.....once u get the cast out of the mold..,u can use that as a base to start sculpting using oil base clay... don't forget to make a hole in the middle of the neck (for the stand) before the plaster starts setting(hardening).

Yes im gonna try to make a mask. But you cant just make it straight out of latex.. First the sculpt in clay then a mold..

You don't want to cook the thing to harden the clay anyway. You'll want your clay "somewhat" soft... Most people here use medium firm oil based clay of some sort. If you're fast enough and skilled enough to keep the sculpt cool and damp for the enitre time you're sculpting, you can use water-based clay as well, but if you have no experience with it (water-based), it's going to crack on the armiture long before you ever get to the molding process (I've seen 2 or 3 threads regarding "why did my sculpt crack?" just in the past week or so). The reason you don't want the clay to bake to harden is that if you have even the slightest of undercuts, when you try to crack the mold halves open, you'll either have mold-lock or the hardened clay will damage the mold if you can open it. You're probably best going with a medium firmness oil-based clay such as Chavant. I use Kleen Klay medium for everything, but it's expensive and not easy to find. Once your sculpt is done, coat it with some Crystal Clear spray (at least a couple coats). This will help keep your sculpt somewhat safe during the molding process.

Also note that the head armiture you have is much smaller than your head... You'll need to build it out (you can use clay to do this) to match the proportions of your head first. Then you can start adding your clay for the actual sculpt. Also bear in mind that latex will shrink once cast in the mold, so you'll need to make your sculpt big enough to accommodate for any shrinkage... say, maybe an inch circumference over the enitre sculpt. Hope that helps... good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks for the comment.

Yeah im a newb a making molds so far so this is completely new for me...

I understand that i should make the mold while the clay is soft.

Im just searching for the right clay.. bought myself a bit of bee wax like clay. just to try it out.. seen the fact that i didnt have enough for the full head i made this fella.. Did this in a couple of hours.. (2-3) Of course this is just a rough sculpt just to learn a bit how to work with the clay..

Im not shure about the clay.. What do you think?

Its about 12 centimeters big
