New McFly jean jacket replica!

I think it's safe to say that Hollywoodtailor wasn't legitimate. He hasn't posted or even logged on to the forum in more than a month. I only wish that there was a TRULY accurate replica made. The liner I could go without because it's all about the jacket itself. The community needs a great replica.

Agreed - would be great to get a costume together...

According to a former employee at Universal, the liner was not complete. It barely went up the sleeves and just ran the inside sides of the coat. No sense in making a fully sewn liner for something that was really only worn for filming. The liner by the way was a necessity, not because of some sort of artistic creative idea. It was because of the modification of the jacket. When they blended the two styles together they had to remove the liner to sew the jacket together. If it had been just some off the rack coat there would have been no reason to mess with it. No identifying marks on any part that would have been shown on screen for a Guess jacket of that era.

I have personally spoken to this guy several months ago. He lives in NJ. He cannot in any way show any proof that this jacket existed in the 80's. I asked him quite a few questions and the story does not add up. He does not have a single picture of anyone wearing the jacket. He cannot explain how his mother bought a mans jacket and wore it for all those years. The reality here is he bought a replica jacket many years ago and was unloading it. This jacket has the tell tale replica signs on it. It also has a tag that does NOT say made in the USA. If this jacket was even close to real it would be sitting in my closet with the other 80's Guess jackets I have.
I was on the old BTTF Forum from day 1. There was never any picture of anyone wearing a Marty style jacket outside of stills from studio produced shows with the exception of a headless picture of someone who claims the picture was from the 80's. Reason for the lack of head???? Simple. IF this guy showed the head he would then have to show a picture of himself today to prove any sort of timeline. When you are making a bogus claim you have to omit the truth to make your story seem real.
The old forum did way more to prove the jacket was a custom made jacket for the film then it ever did for the 1 or 2 people that tried to claim they owned something they didn't. Only 1 jacket ever made it out to the public and the Teen Beat winner has never been found. That jacket would be worth a forutne and would never be sold on the Bay for for anything less than $50,000.

Well its a bloody fantastic replica if thats true and I WANT it lol.

It is. And its not the only 1. There are three or four of these, most likely by the same person, because they all contain the same indicator. There are what Guess should have done. But most of the people on here were not teenagers in the 80's. They cannot first hand experience what it was like then, I dont care how many times you watch the movie. There was virtually NO marketing of film related stuff back in those days. George Lucas was the first to realize the HUGE potential of movie related items. He got the rights to Star Wars toys from the studio for NOTHING! Not today. If BTTF was made today there would be hundreds of toys, Guess and Class 5 would be pumping out clothing like mad. But it was the 80's. People just didn't recognize the potential. The only company that had clothing in the film still making items for fans is Shah Safari. Guess has been approached about doing an anniversary jacket and their minimum requirements are way off the chart to make it possible. I was not involved in that attempt. I may try it. I am setting up a meeting with Guess this fall.

I am honestly surprised that Guess has not done anything with the jacket. Class-5 is a different story though. I believe you tried to buy the company? Bummer that it didn't play out in your favor. You would make a killing if that went right.

The Class-5 thing baffles me. I was hoping that would have panned out. I figured that the Jap group that bought the rights were doing it because of BTTF. Apparently not. They have no desire to make the vest. They have been asked and dont seem to care. Talk about getting handed a gold mine and just filling it with water!

Thanks Mitas - lmk if you have any recommendations...

This is my costume with that jacket.

BTTF Forum, could you show pictures of the two denim jackets that were used together to make the movie jacket, so in case a proper replica is never made fans could make one themselves?

Nope... that vest is still "in transit"... not holding my breath.

I've got a vest I could send you. I originally got this to do some color-matching for building my own replica, but I doubt I'm actually going to get around to it, so I'd be happy to donate it to the cause, got it cheap on eBay. As you can see, it should be the same colors, and I figured it would also be good for studying the elastic portion around the waist, as it seems to be the same as Marty's but different from post other Guess jackets of the time, plus it has the same style pockets. Let me know if you could still use it.

Wow... that would be very helpful. Give me a few days to see if this other vest is a complete right-off or whether the post office still has some hope in tracking it down...

If that had the colors in the right places and had arms it would be spot on to the movie jacket. And if the back was all one piece.
