New Martian war machine model (1953 version)

Here's a shot of the Monsters in Motion MWM I built a few years back. Although obnoxiously overpriced, the patterning work is spot on.

I suspect the Pegasus kit may be based on the same pattern as the MiM kit, but I haven't been able to confirm my theory. By chance has anyone compared the two models side-by-side?

I see a few differences as far as the green bits.

The bottom three repulser dealys are larger, the tips extend in a little further along the leading edge.

Twas a good (long) weekend to be a model geek here in L.A. -

The copper paint is Alclad. The green parts are the kits parts, just polished up a bit.

Can't wait for mine. I've already watched WOTW's to get ready. The green parts are clear: right? I want to add lighting there and on the heat ray.

A little too clear, I think they need a frosting over on the insides, should help spread the light around too.

What actually surprises me is that a kit of this ship has been available for quite some time and there has been little intrest in it. The MIM kit is the same exact size and is also suitable for lighting. It's hollow with clear parts as well.

But this Pegasus version is about $60 cheaper. Is this the only reason the MIM has had no love all these years? I mean other than the recent reported cases of recasting some models?

Cost and the comfort of famliar styrene kit. The others are resin or vacuum formed I think?
I think the pre-built copper/chrome one has strong appeal too, even though not accurate. Bang! you got a war machine while we wait for the lighting kits to hit.

I think for some of us, this is the kit we badly wanted as a kid. This is the Aurora kit that should have been.

True. I think someone was even making "fake" Aurora long boxes for the MWM a while ago.

I remember asking Santa when I was child for a plastic kit of the J2 and MWM 30+ years ago. Curse you Santa for making me wait all these years!

First off, though MIM has a pretty classy website and runs ads in the major modeling magazines, Pegasus is starting to get pretty good coverage in hobby and craft stores nationwide. So, in a way, you don't have to go looking for it as much.

And has been mentioned, $80 resin kit vs. $25 styrene kit - easy choice for me.

As for the recasting issues MIM - that makes it a lot easier for me to support legitimate hobby suppliers like Pegasus and Moebius. Those guys got the license and turned out a terrific product. They should be supported and encouraged.

I was unaware that this model was around. But even if I had heard that MiM had them, I would NEVER send them a nickel. Plus until recently I had a four footer so 11" seemed a little understated.

Got mine today. It looks like it will be pretty easy to add lighting to this. Oh, and a 4ft. martian war machine? Do tell . . . and post photos.

Just ordered mine. It's about time someone made one. Back in the '90's I always figured Polar Lights would be releasing one at some point.

I'm definitely buying one of these!

I still have my mostly built Lunar vac-form kit. I need new clear parts before I can finish it though. If anyone can help me, I would appreciate it.

Well I finally broke down and ordered a few kits. One is going to be built as the walker version from the series the other will probably be the version seen in warehouse in the pilot episode.

I tore apart a couple old flashlights to salvage white LEDs and soldered them to perfboard.

The main green lens was sprayed with Krylon clear matte to frost the inside.

This is what it looks like so far with the LED board placed in front and LEDs placed in the tips.

Now I’ll set back and wait for the lighthouse beacon I ordered to arrive that will hopefully simulate the death ray.
