New Hasbro Toy Lightsabers

I find it shocking they haven't figured out a way to re-run the removable blade versions. Why... for the love of all things holy... would you not re-issue the removable blade FXs? It boggles the mind. The 2010 Luke ANHs were going for $1K+ on fleabay during the hype leading up to TFA. Goodness knows what they'll run for in the hype leading up to VIII.

I have three theories.

1. Customer Relations. Hasbro is out of touch with what customers want.

2. Safety. MR reps had stated that when they first designed the FX lightsabers, they had a cool removable blade feature but LFL nixed it due to safety concerns. I was surprised when they did it for the Hasbro versions.

3. Legal. The removable blade version might conflict with a current license held by another company. Maybe there was a reason they could offer it prior but now there are issues.

Are you asking strictly about Black Series FX? The Luke Return of the Jedi was the news at SDCC. It was known prior but it finally was shown. No other FX Lightsabers were shown.

Thanks, I didn't know they were Not relapsing the Luke Rotj. I was figuring now seeing the like Rotj, we may get other old fx's saber's re-released

FYI: Saw the Luke Return of the Jedi lightsaber in Target for Force Friday.

Other notable toy lightsaber news. The $10 flick open Kanan lightsaber is also now available (new Hasbro, not the older Rubies).

Not Hasbro but...

I found this on the Disney Parks Shop App.

That Ezra lightsaber looks pretty neat. I've always thought that his lightsaber design was pretty awesome. I might have to try to get one of those (seeing as I never got one of the Hasbro ones).

I know there was a thread mentioning this, but I can't, for the life of me, find it.

Anyway, remember that two saber dueling set released for TLJ? Well, the Rey TFA/TLJ basic saber (with flick out blade) is now available separately.

I already had the Kylo saber, so the two pack didn't appeal to me. Now that it's packaged on it's own, I picked one up. Obviously over sized in diameter, but it might be a fun one to modify.

A swing and a miss... They take a bunch of cool technology and put it into a crap saber. How is it that Hasbro can do so well on some things and get others so totally wrong?

I guess that is based on what you think they are swinging at. I am not sure what is going through your head but I know in the past, people on this board hoped for some sort of base that might be modified into a nice prop. So as details and scaling improved, we had more interest. But these days with 3D modeling at places like Etsy, we are better off going in another direction than modifying toys for affordable props.

For us on the board, Our interest in Hasbro and lightsabers are mainly the black series line. As I just posted in the Black Series helmet thread...

The belief is that the Star Wars items shown is just a small part of the Star Wars line. They expect more products to be shown at celebration in April and more in July at SDCC. If they show the EPS 9 trailer at or before celebration, then we might see some movie products then.

Also, Triple Force Friday is October 4. Triple Force Friday Announced | StarWars.com

So if a helmet is to be released this year, it could be held back because it is a tie in with EPS 9, The Mandalorian, or Fallen Order.

Hopefully this is the same for a Black Series FX lightsaber. I could see Rey's new lightsaber (assuming she builds a new one) would probably be desirable to fans. I also know that the community would appreciate improved designs that bring back the removable blades and or introduced correct thin neck designs for the appropriate designs.

As far as the new offering, I hope they appeal to kids. I believe the description for the $7.99 Level 2 lightsabers is incorrect saying they need batteries. I believe these are the just the non-electronic wrist flick style that goes back the not having the hole at the pommel for the build function.

I also noticed Level one electronic light saber has a collapsable blade that is only 2 sections and that the usual 3 sections. I do not recall this detail on any past toys but I could be wrong. I know in the past they tried designs where the entire blade could hide in the hilt so obviously this is not one of them.

I will be interested to see how this Lightsaber Academy toy appeals to kids. Now that more kids have devices that can utilize apps, this might do well but that is going to be based on whether or not you can get kids interested in Star Wars again. I remember they had an electronic lightsaber in 2002 that was an Anakin Attack of the Clones hilt that had built in training mode that taught you to do moves and go up skill levels. I think the biggest appeal for this board was that it had a chrome like surface so it looked closer to the prop. I do like the original designs of the hilts.

Well, the saber pictured has a flick out blade (bad) and resembles no existing movie saber, so that's disappointing.

And the level 1 electronic sabers are already in Walmart, and they're not great. Light, no sound, and undersized.

Like I said, I like the original design of the Academy saber. It fits the theme of what they are trying to do.

As far as the level one, did you happen to see the price? I saw them on entertainment earth and they are listed at at $9.99 or $17.99 for a set of two. So that probably explains the lights but no sound. They were aiming for a lower price point.

Remember, these are not for us. The big problem for Hasbro is that they aren’t selling toys to kids. Adult collectors aren’t the problem, they may wine and complain about not liking a paint job or not making a certain figure, but mostly they are still buying. So they are trying something new. I guess they felt that the interactive lightsaber might be the next Co-pilot Chewie. It was a great seller over the holidays and just won the you industry’s Plush Toy of the Year. I actually got one for Christmas, he’s awesome.

I want Hasbro to do well. So I hope these generate the interest for the kids they are targeting. But for your sake and mine, I hope they also figure out what attracts us via there Black Series line.

Unimpressed. They sit on the Force FX license and do absolutely nothing for it as far has improvements go and yet release completely new versions of the electronic sabers?

Why cant they do any of that in the fx line? Why have the license if they are going to release the exact same MR designs? At least MR kept pushing forward on the fx to new heights when they were being produced. New hilt designs makinking them smaller and new hilts.

Hasbro released Vader Luke and Anakin 3 different times(along with a few others) and all are the EXACT same MR designs. Only the soundboard changed.

Disney comes along with their fxs, albeit only 3, and provide new smaller and more accurate hilt designs and at least Vader got the correct ignition. Unlike the 1 exact same soundboard for the black series!

So they're dropping a crap gimmick to make lightsabers that look like $3 Chinese knockoffs? Oh how the mighty have fallen.
