New Doctor Who Series Discussion *Spoilers*

Her english accent for Sanctuary was horrible. I couldn't watch the show because I couldn't get past it.

Considering Super/Spider/Bat men are all played by Brits now, it seems only fair to cast an American as the new Doctor.... :D

I guess it's too late to get Morrissey to be a real Doctor now that he's contractually obligated to Walking Dead.
There's always Stephen Mangan.
Jason Isaacs and Alan Rickman are 2 of my fave Brit heavies, but probably a bit much for Who.

I wouldn't mind seeing a series with John Hurt's Doctor while they ease into a new one, but that would pretty much put Coleman's on ice for a year which she probably wouldn't go for.

Ultimately it will probably be a lesser-known actor, certainly to American audiences.

Yeah... not to happy with Matt Smith leaving. Matt is my Doctor. My first Doctor was #9, and #10 was great, but #11 is my favorite.

That's your problem, being a human being born with one body living in it their entire life and dieing permanently. I'm sure to Time Lords that it's not unusual if they do go through gender changes sometimes during regeneration.

Nah. My problem is simply the inability to accept that the Doctor has the potential to become pregnant, and the potential to regenerate into a male form whilst in such a condition.

Frankly, if they choose to change the sex of a character we've known for half of a century, it will be purely for shock value. And that is the lowest form of entertainment. Sweeps Week, sensationalist trash.

Alright.. I may get crap for this, but this is who I'd like to see for 12.

He's at the perfect age now, and he'd FINALLY be ginger!

And I should hope so. One of the things I took away from the "first" series with Eccleston and Piper was that, to my UK friends, Piper was a horrible choice. They had all of this preconceived baggage with her and couldn't see past the actress. I had no such problem and loved Piper as Rose.

I'm sure someone like Rickman could do justice to the role, but let's face it... not many people would see him as the Doctor. They'd see him as Rickman playing the Doctor and it would blow the illusion.

See above.

Was off the grid over the weekend and just got the news. Not terribly surprised.

What I would like is for them to take all of 2014 to find #12. Really take their time finding the right one.

And while they are doing that, have McGann do a "flashback" season to fill 2014.

You know who I'd like to see as the new Doctor?

Simon Pegg. Besides the natural comedic quirkiness he's capable of, and the fantastic job (IMO) he did portraying Scotty in the last 2 Trek movies, he'd be totally believable in the role of the Doctor.

That, and I can't say I'll miss Matt Smith since I quit watching the show after Tennant left. Pegg would definitely bring me back as a viewer!

I'm guessing they already have someone tentatively lined up and are keeping it secret; Smith probably told them he was leaving months ago when he was cast in the Gosling movie.

My first thought of a replacement was Ben Whishaw. He's not perfect for the role, but he could be "the type" needed.

My wife's reaction was 'thank god!'

I don't like his Doctor, but Smith seems a nice enough guy. I'd sooner see Moffat go, Smith's OTT goonery of late is a side effect, not a cause.

I have to agree. I have just started to like Smith as the Doctor. I would much rather see Moffat go.

It's a British institution. The Doctor has to be a brit.

As much as I like some of the "well known" actors mentioned, just give it to an unknown. I want to see The Doctor. I don't want "Mos Def as Doctor Who" or "Ronald Wesley as Doctor Who". Even the Cumberbatch ship has sailed. I wish he had said yes the first time.

OK let's see if this finally works, REALLY RPF FIX THE G'DAMNED REPLY WITH QUOTE!!!... Every time I try to do this it asks me if I really want to navigate away from the page or it locks up, VERY frustrating.

Anywho, The reason why the Doctor cannot be american is because he is BRITISH. This is a British show and we have fouled up enough great shows from Britain already thanks (Top Gear anyone??)

ALso I am hoping Clara is GONE soon. Just cannot stand her as a companion. The worst was Donna Noble but Clara is quickly catching up to her IMHO

Yea, even though Superman, Bat Man and Spiderman are all American characters played by Brits now.... Under NO circumstances should THEY ever be British...right? :$

I don't care what nationality or race is in the lead role, as long as he is "The Doctor" and does his job well!

Well, RDJ played Sherlock Holmes and did a decent job. Given more time belonging to the world in the same way Holmes has, I think an American playing the Doctor would be fine. As long as they played it with a British accent. Tenant was a different nationality than his Doctor afterall.
