New Doctor Who Series Discussion *Spoilers*

Tenth Doctor: You know, I love being you. Back when I first started at the very beginning, I was always trying to be old and grumpy and important like you do when you're young, and then I was you. And I was all dashing about and playing cricket and my voice going all squeaky when I shout and I still do that! The voice thing, I got that from you! Oh!
[shows trainers]
Tenth Doctor: And the trainers and...
[puts on glasses]
Tenth Doctor: Snap. Because you know what, Doctor? You were my Doctor.
Fifth Doctor: To days to come.
Tenth Doctor: All my love to long ago.
[the fifth Doctor fades away]

I love that scene! Not only is it #10 getting nostalgic for his younger days, but also Tennant genuinely expressing his feelings for the show.

I missed that, too. The line was "He gave his life for a friend once. Another friend brought him back". That really doesn't explain it. Then again, you don't need much explanation besides "timey wimey".

So it looks like the Snowmen may be a prequel to another icy adventure in the London Underground. Maybe that clip in the "coming soon" is Yeti. or Ice Warriors.

I just assumed it was a prequel to the Troughton serial.

I was really hoping we were done with Lizard Lady, Girl Friday and Mr. Potatoe Head, but alas, that trap of so many writers, the Moff has fallen into.

Come up with a set of really fun, awesome, one-off characters, and then wear them into the ground! :rolleyes

It's like on Star Trek when Kor the Klingon came back! It was awesome! But by his third appearance I was hoping he would die as he was only back for the sake of being back with a weakly contrived story!

Same with lizard and co. They were great in the Pandorica opens, but now....I mean, what did they add to the Christmas Special? Really?

The special was about the Doctor brooding....meeting Clara, realizing Clara was Oswin......losing Clara, off to find Clara!

I mean other than standing in the yard and snarling, WHAT DID THE SNOWMEN EVEN DO?

The whole 'plot' of the episode could have been reduced to a CIN special.

I'm not even sure what Grant's character really had to do with the story?

Other than a big alien snow globe that got melted by a dying (Or re-dying) girls tear!

And.........Why didn't the Doctor jump into the TARDIS and go back in time five seconds and open the door to the pools like he did for River Song?

And........

Actually, I think the new Star Trek movie is gonna be awesome!

Agree with you for the most part minus Mr. Potato Head (actually really liked him and thought he was well used) and Star Trek (not a fan of the new direction although I don't hate it). :)

Lizard lady & companion just aren't very good characters I don't think. Also don't really like that the Doctor keeps visiting/bumping into the same characters. Makes the universe seem smaller.

I don't think that the Lizard lady & companion are bad characters, just very under or improperly utilized. They're being treated as if they are stars of their own series and guest starring on this one like Kato and the Green Hornet guesting on Batman.

Never said they were bad. Just "not very good". ;)

I liked them when we first saw them. This time was pretty weak though. As I said, makes the universe smaller.

I dunno, the "one word answer" scene worked VERY well. I was reading a certain amount of three way sexual tension in it that made it border on "I'll be in my bunk" worthy...then again, I do that.

Didn't like that scene at all actually. :lol

It was all so staged that it didn't seem genuine. Creating an aura of mystery where none had yet been established for the character. Kind of a "who the hell are you?" vibe for me.

Didn't see the three way sexual tension though. Maybe that was just you. :lol

We need to get you out more. ;) Here's your candy, get in the van and we'll head around the block for a bit.

Trust me, I've been around. I'm the one that called them being lesbians when they first showed up in the Daemon's Run ep.

Perhaps I didn't notice it because by the time that scene rolled around I was rolling my eyes. Really thought this xmas special stunk.

You know, people keep saying "Give the show a break, it's for children!" and then there's all the sexual talk and hinting in it. Either make it for children or make it for both kids and adults and leave the unnecessary sex talk out of it. Have the characters in relationships, fine, but seriously some of the crap is just there to be "hip" and it it feels so fricken forced it just throws it out of whack.

And yep, the Christmas Specials have been anything but special.

I don't mind when the Xmas specials don't make sense. For instance the Christmas Carol one was pretty enjoyable if you turned your brain off to the "rules" of Who time travel.

This and the last one though? Big meh from me.
