New Doctor Who Series Discussion *Spoilers*

Ok, I suppose The Master is an exceptional case, but it only goes to show how much more difficult it would be to write the return of other Timelords, and do it well.

Indeed. They said "They're gone."...and made quite a big deal of it. Over a couple of seasons. It would be a major mistake to bring them back.

But I do feel that we don't know a thing about the Doctor. From the confusion over his age, to the hints made during McCoy's run about the "Cartmel Plan", to the number of potential regenerations, to his name. I've said it before. I like the mystery, and am prepared for any curve balls.

Making the Doctor the lone timelord is definitely the best way to go in the series. It adds an extra sense of tragedy. That is what drew me in to this series over the summer when I started at Eccleston's run. To this day, the Ninth Doctor is my favorite doctor. :)

ok i've come up with two theories.

either oswin is the doctors clone daughter, or she is jacks daughter, as he cant die and maybe he passes it on :D

Don't think it's either of those. First, if it were the Doctor's daughter she would likely still look like she did before as they established that she didn't change when she regenerated. Secondly, they buried her in the Xmas episode. Under ground makes it very difficult to come back to life.

I'm going to guess some "cosmic link" thing.

Every child and grandchild of Jack's seen is mortal. Don't think she's related to him.

Personally I don't think Jenny regenerated, I'm betting that it was regeneration energy but not an actual regeneration. Maybe she was in the 15 hour window of residual regeneration energy from the manner of her creation, so it didn't count against the twelve regenerations. Also don't think Clara is related to her.

I'm going to guess she's special because the Doctor made her that way in the usual wobbly-wobbly predestination paradox way. Rose was only important because traveling with the Doctor led to her becoming the Bad Wolf. Donna was only important because traveling with the Doctor led to her becoming the Doctor-Donna. Amy was only important because of the crack in her wall, which wouldn't be there if she hadn't traveled with the Doctor. All these companions with universal significance only have it because of traveling with the Doctor, none of them are intrinsically important irrespective of him. I'd bet good money that the Doctor's at least an accessory to whatever's up with Clara.

I wouldn't have a problem with the timelords coming back frankly. I wouldn't have a problem if they stayed away either.

They were never a big part of the series at all. So it's easy to take them or leave them. Hard to miss what wasn't there very much.

It's also a big deal to eradicate the entire planet/species off air and just say 'it happened' so deal with it. If it was something that we witnessed and was a major storyline then I can see it being untouchable. As a paragraph of backstory, I don't see it as untouchable.

The Dalek's were able to survive it, so why not timelords?

After the deal with the exploding TARDIS, the cracks, all of it never happening, but a few of them remembering, I'm going to say that it's entirely possible that they ARE back but he doesn't know yet.
Much of what we know about the time-war can be rolled back to him in one way or another.
The war was largely against Daleks which believed they were the only race in the universe until he arrived on Skaro.. more than once. Many of their adaptations can probably be attributed to their failings against HIM.
HE ended the war and locked the combatants away.
No doctor, no timewar, no time-lock on Gallifrey.
Remember, he went ALL the way back and erased himself completely.

Of course, even if they NEVER bring Gallifrey back, I have to say that I have seen MANY similarities to Troughton's run and I sort of wonder if this Doctor won't be done much the same way as the second Doctor. Although that would almost require their return lol only then could he be exiled and forced to regenerate.

Oh no... Does that mean we're due for another Earthbound Doctor like Pertwee???

NOOOOOOO!!!!! :sick

I previously complained that he's been pretty much earthbound since his regeneration (and somewhat before), here's a breakdown of 11's Terrestrial and non-terrestrial adventures:

Set mostly or entirely on Earth:
  1. The Eleventh Hour
  2. Victory of the Daleks
  3. The Vampires of Venice
  4. The Hungry Earth / Cold Blood
  5. Vincent and the Doctor
  6. The Lodger
  7. The Pandorica Opens / The Big Bang
  8. The Impossible Astronaut / Day of the Moon
  9. The Curse of the Black Spot
  10. The Rebel Flesh / The Almost People
  11. Let's Kill Hitler
  12. Night Terrors
  13. Closing Time
  14. The Wedding of River Song
  15. The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe
  16. A Town Called Mercy
  17. The Power of Three
  18. The Angels Take Manhattan
  19. The Snowmen
Definitely an alien planet/station/etc.
  1. The Time of Angels / Flesh and Stone
  2. A Christmas Carol (though VERY Dickensian London)
  3. The Doctor's Wife (most alien of all, not even the same universe)
  4. A Good Man Goes to War
  5. The Girl Who Waited
  6. The God Complex (in the guise of an Earth hotel)
  7. Asylum of the Daleks
So-so settings:
  • The Beast Below (spaceship FROM earth and designed to look like earth cities)
  • Dinosaurs on a Spaceship (also FROM earth, returning TO it and starts of on earth with plenty of contact with the Indian Space Agency)
  • Amy's Choice (All in the mind, but one fantasy is set on Earth)

In conclusion: More Alien worlds, please!

Agree more alien worlds but I don't count ones that involve time travel to a different era as "earthbound" meaning that only five of those qualify.

Okay, where's the list for Nine and Ten? Every Nine story was on Earth or in Earth orbit. Ten at least left the solar system, though most of his stuff still involved Earth than didn't. Disinclined to run the numbers, but I don't think he had terribly more non-Earth stories over his 3+ years than Eleven has in his 2+ years.

Yep. Even in the classic series a good portion of the episodes involve Earth. It's just easier to shoot there. :lol

That's where the time travel comes in to play. They can be on Earth all the time as long as it's in different periods so far as I'm concerned.

9 didn't visit a foreign planet even once. IIRC all but two of his episodes was either on Earth or in orbit. The other two were the two times he visited that TV station which was Earth run.

I didn't mind though. As I said, time travel. ;)
