New Doctor Who Series Discussion *Spoilers*

If you're talking about console room overhauls, there was that one-off with Pertwee where the walls were like washing-up bowls.

Also, Pertwee was the last one to use the original console IIRC. Once the power of travel was returned to him he got a new one.

I've been thinking about this some more. My questions is, "Why would the TARDIS regenerate the console room, but not the outside, like she did in the 11th hour?"

The chameleon circuit has been broken since the 1960's. He either can't or won't fix it.

I like the new control room except for the spinning things above the console. But I'm still disappointed that in "The Doctor's Wife" they did not get a really old school console room from Baker or somebody. Granted, with HD it might not have worked as well for TV.

I thought the point of going to logopolis was to fix it. Then logopolis got wasted and baker died.

9 seemed to explain it almost as if the circuit did work now, but that he liked the phone box look so he had no reason to change it.

There was at least one episode of the classic series where he either fixed it or made SOME repairs to it.
I seem to recall it becoming a grand piano briefly.

Colin Baker's Attack of the Cybermen: Attack of the Cybermen - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The TARDIS changes from its police box shape for the first time when the Doctor manages to repair the chameleon circuit. It takes the shape of a decorated stove, a pipe organ, and an ornamental gateway.

So, why did the TARDUS regenerate itself this time with only a new console?

Let me whip out my psychology minor here for a second: 10's regeneration into 11 was heavily delayed so the energies just built and built until he could hold the change back no more. The resultant release of regenerative power destroyed half the console room and forced the Tardis to repair and rebuild herself, going so far as to scan everyday items within a few hundred miles just to get some idea of what to make of the controls and layout. This we already knew.

The exterior of the Tardis was badly scorched by forcing it's way into the temporal mess that was Manhattan in the 1930's. The Doctor and River started to clean it when Rory and eventually Amy got sent back in time by the surviving Angel. This we already knew.

We never saw the Doctor and River do any more cleaning of the scorch marks on the exterior but we did see them traveling and also how totally devastated the Doctor was by the loss of his two best friends. Then the series jumps for an unspecified amount of the Doctor's personal timeline to the XMas ep. That we already knew too.

The Doctor was depressed, in a "Brown Study" (as the 6th put it to Mel when she seemed distracted and down in the dumps as 11 was at the beginning of this) so he more than likely changed his immediate personal surroundings to more fit his mood; blues and grays replacing the brighter brass and reds of the previous Console Room. Mutable lighting for sitting in the half dark and moping but bright spots and plenty of additional lighting to come on when life no longer needs mute, dark and in sad repose. He changed the console room to fit his mood but didn't want to write off the loss of his friends completely; he needed a reminder of some sort. That would be where leaving the Tardis exterior scorched comes in. Inside is different, giving the Doctor some degree of separation from the agony of loosing his two closest and most amazing friends. He has put himself in forced retirement, though, so outside the Tardis remains unchanged so every time he thinks he should venture out and change the world again he sees that terrible reminder of what made him turn his back on it all. Muted and blue on the inside, scarred on the outside. The Tardis is a reflection of the Doctor and the Doctor reflected in the Tardis. Inside and out.

As for his handing over the key time and again to Oswin's Victorian Incarnation: she made him realize that sitting in the dark and trying to die a little each second was not the way to be for him. He saw that no matter how he tried to repress her he failed so he saw in her how to stop repressing himself. Like a drunkard to the bottle he kept returning to her his own key for release.

Sadly it was cheaper for them to use the saved 9/10 console than to rebuild a previous console room. Budget is also to blame for nephew being and Ood instead of a new alien.

For my money it was nice seeing the previous console room, though seeing an older one would have been cooler.

Randomly pining for a Classic Console toy from Character Options. I think they said it was nixed ages ago, but it would be great.

Same here. Shall we traipse to petition.org or what ever that site is and start one to inform CO on just how much of a global interest there would be in a console? The question is Hartnell, Baker or 5 Doctors version to start?

I think there's hope for a CO Baker Console Room. They've made a lot more obscure stuff. The Junkyard Tardis set is fun.

Snowmen was great. Strongest Xmas ep in a long long time. No idea where they are going with Clara...and I love it.

New intro is awesome. Didn't see the coat rack? Tardis was looking good inside and out.
