Agreed! Remember how awesome "Time of Angels" was and how LAME the second part was? :(
 
I have to wonder why most of you still watch. If I was this dissatisfied I would have stopped long ago.

It is a TV show. A TV show I have loved for decades. It has never been good at continuity. Consistency is not a mainstay in time travel stories.

It is about the characters. It is about the Doctor, his companion(s) and whoever the baddie is this week.

Relax and enjoy.

We do enjoy and despite some online banter most of us do relax. We love it so much that we have to talk about it further. When they knock it out of the park we praise it when they have a bad episode we pan it.

I love the Toronto Maple Leafs but they usually suck so I gripe. I gripe BECAUSE I love.

If you don't want to talk about the episodes why come to the thread?

There's lots of this sort of thing in the Robocop Remake thread. Difference is, we probably will all hate that :lol
 
I come to the thread looking for intelligent analysis, but it always seems to degenerate into how awful it is. When these rants are all that this thread produces I will stop coming to this thread.

Read the first day or two after an episode and you get the analysis. Then it's "waiting until the next one" where things get slack. If you read back the "ranting" (I'd hardly call it that) is a direct result of that analysis critiquing the Doctor's rationale for being so clingy with Amy & Rory.

I see maybe two posts that aren't related to that. Want to change the topic? Post your analysis and we'll talk about that. Otherwise this thread is just fine.
 
Oh, I didn't know it was up to you to make that decision. I am glad it is OK for you to complain, but I should keep quite when it doesn't meet up with your view.

I said nothing of the sort and you know it. This thread is about Doctor Who discussion, you're complaining about... Wait for it... Doctor Who discussion. I simply said that if you don't like the way it's going then add your thoughts on the show.
 
Anyhow, back on topic I just think that they could have made the Doctor's connection to Amy & Rory far more deep and interesting. The guilt route is probably highest. Amy infertile, Rory waited 1,500 years for her, etc...

The "first face" comment was an endearing moment but doesn't justify the bond IMO.

I agree the "first face" thing was lame. I would have been satisfied if it was never addressed. People get attached to other people. It took me a long time to warm up to Rory, but Amy has been fascinating from the start and I will be sad to see her go, but that is the nature of a good companion.

I thought Amy was set up well in her first couple episodes but then fell into the "Bossy Scottish Woman" routine that got old pretty quick. Rory is a bit gimmicky as well but he really started to come into his own in the episode where they were in the Doctor's dream world (title escapes me ATM). As cheesy as it was I did like the Centurion thing. "The boy who waited for the girl who waited".

The infertility thing smacks of contrived conflict to me. No reason at all to suggest that was the case and they just needed a reason for Amy & Rory to want to split. I'll betcha anything by the end of this she's able to get pregnant again.

They were good companions but definitely time for a change from the family Pond.

With a few notable exceptions you're right. Although it really isn't until the new series that the Doctor seems to be devastated when they do. A little annoying when he knows by now that there are plenty of "other fish" in the sea when it comes to companions. He's had all types.

I liked when the First Doctor first lost companions he was grumpy & upset but as he evolved he grew to find that there are plenty of interesting people to hang out with.

Technically we don't know that. Timey wimey and all that. He could visit her the day after he left in the next episode if he wanted to. ;)

Having a time machine and living for over 1,000 years give you a lot of leeway for stuff like that. It's actually a strong reason why the Doctor shouldn't be overly upset about departing companions, he can always visit them again should he choose (with the exception of a few. Dead, forced to forget, etc.) much like 10th's farewell tour.
