New Doctor Who Series Discussion *Spoilers*

Besides, he believes his daughter is dead. If he'd met her daughter 800 years ago he'd have to know she survived.

Ya. I was thinking that he wouldn't necessarily know who Susan's parents are, just that the lineage was shown some how (DNA). But as I said, clearly the original intent was that he had a family prior to the show. Not contesting it, just playing games with the on screen evidence to make things work. :)

I would like to see the Doctor go some time into the future and have a girl come up to him and say "Hello my name is Susan". Then "Hello I'm the Doctor". Then "Oh I know who you are Grandfather"

Rassilon wasn't dead. There's some dialog about the Time Lords rising up against him and imprisoning him in his tomb and then covering it up with the story that he died. I think it was the 2nd Doctor telling the Brig in "The 5 Doctors."

One of the worst things in the revived Who is the "bring back".

The Daleks are all dead. But, wait, OMG! One Dalek survived and it along could destroy humanity! Wait, okay, delt with. Daleks are gone for good.
... but wait! Somehow, some Daleks survived and built an army! OH NO! Okay, Rose destroys them all. We're good.
... but wait! Some Daleks were in the void!
... etc.
... etc.
... etc.

This effect also applies to Rose and, yes, the Time Lords.
The Time Lords are dead. There's NO WAY any survived.
... but wait! The Master is here!! Okay, we killed The Master, no more Time Lords.
... but wait! Let's clone The Doctor so now there's another Time Lord out there!
... but wait! The Time Lords have managed to break the Time Lock!
... Daleks!

They need to stop. The Doctor is the only Time Lord remaining. No more Jenny being a Time Lord, no more Master, no more River is a Time Lord... nothing. Oh yeah, and DO NOT bring back Susan, Romana, or any other Time Lord.

This is also really annoying in the current series - they have to find an excuse to get Amy and Rory back in the Tardis every episode. It's like in the Next Generation movies where they had to find a way bring Worf back into the mix. "I just happened to be on the way back to DS9 and.... Wow! My old crew! let's go on a mission!"

Ugh.

Totally agree as a general rule. Still though, if years from now the very last episode if he "went back" to Susan like he said he would it would be a nice finish if they could make it plausible.

I've said time & time again that the Daleks, Rose, and the Time Lords were all diminished because of the bring backs.

The most hurt is Rose. Her leaving was SO POWERFUL AN MEMORABLE but was ruined by coming back. :thumbsdown

Keep in mind too with Susan that she has never been identified as a Time Lord. She's most certainly Gallifreyan but as we've already established that doesn't necessarily mean she has regenerative powers or would have been included in the Time Lock that trapped all the Time Lords.

As an old series fan, I hope the 50th anniversary is looooaaaaaaded with bring backs.

Then we can go back to no bring backs.

But next year I want a formal dinner party with yetis, maggots, Zygons, the Wirrn, Sea Devils, Silurians. I want to see a game of canasta between The Master, Davros, Morbius, and Omega.

At least the action figures are full of call backs. :)

Gimme some Ice Warriors!!! :D

Well the term time lord wasn't even uttered until the latter part of troughtons run. Not ever saying susan was one during her tenure doesnt mean much.

True, but it doesn't change that there is no evidence that she was. Hell, if you go by some of the "expanded universe" stuff she's not even related to the Doctor. ;)

Not necessarily. If the Master wasn't trapped in the time lock who's to say that Susan would be to.

Also we don't have a clear idea of what exactly was locked in the Time-lock. Obviously Gallifrey was. The Master had abandoned the War and fled to the end of time, as far away from it as possible. I figure whatever The Doctor did was focused mostly on Gallifrey and rightly or wrongly he assumed all living Timelords were on Gallifrey at the time he roasted it.
