New Doctor Who Series Discussion *Spoilers*

Re: Dr. Who New Season SPOILER

I loved 'The Doctor's Wife', brilliant episode.:thumbsup

I agree. The writing and characterization was much better than the standard Who episodes (Neil Gaiman doesn't disappoint). I LOVED that the writing and story finally pulled a truly excellent performance out of Smith. I always felt his interpretation of the Doctor wasn't so great because the material he was given was kinda meh (*coughmostofseason5cough*). Season 6 is doing good so far... 3 great episodes out of 4. :thumbsup

Well that question has been answered.

Now, no spoilers, but I'd just like to say: The Isle of Sheppey - mentioned twice in tonight's episode... I live there.

I know it's for spoilers, but even so... the episode was barely over.

But, yes, cloned Doctor.... This is going to spawn a million questions and theories before he second part airs. Will The Doctor and clone get along? Will they argue? More to the point: Is a cloned Doctor technically a Time-Lord or just a Gallifreyan?

Okay, what the **** were they pumping? Was there ever an explanation of WHY they're able to pump up from the ground this super acid? Why hasn't anyone asked WHY it was there to begin with?

Secret military stuff, obviously ;)
The acid pumping is just the reason for the factory, it could have been a dangerous mine, or processing plant, but those have been done before. Maybe we'll find out what the acid is used for/where it comes from, and maybe we won't. It doesn't have to be important.

Because it really doesn't seem to make much of a difference to this story.

It's adding an additional threat to the situation that is unexplainable. It'd be like saying people spontaneously combust on this island and then letting it go without any explanation. There's just some super acid they can pump out of the ground on an island and send across a sea/lake/ocean to civilization? Why pump it so far when it's clearly so dangerous? In pipes that so easily fracture and spill apocalypticly powerful acid?

Sorry folks, this is just ****ty writing on the part of the creators this season. It's unexcuseable.

The last one was better but I'll reserve what I think untill the next episode. I agree with Kerr Avon, I would like to know what the acid if for to. I mean it would only take two lines to say.

Does anyone else have a problem with the way it comes on now, with Amy saying that the Doctor was her imaginary friend? It's never needed an opening explanation before.

My guess is that's already an established entity in the UK and now they're doing what they can to broaden the US market and adding a little 'set up' in the intro to tell new viewers what's going on (in a tiny way). It doesn't bother me, but I don't think it's necessary either.

It starts off in kinda a dream state (fuzzy edges around the screen) with Amy saying "When I was a little, I had an Imaginary friend. Then when I grew up, he came back." And there's a quick hightlight montage in it as well before it jumps to the standard opening.

I could care less about the opening, I just wish they wouldn't cut off 10ish minutes from the UK version. They showed the season priemere when Matt Smith debuted in it's entirety - seems like they could do it for all of them.

I saw the BBCA version for the first time last week. Once was enough for me. Not a fan of the narration, commercials, or editing.

I liked the episode. Pretty creepy. A great Rory episode. He stood up to Amy a few times.

The human race already does this for oil...a super liquid that makes everything go. If we discovered (terrestrially or otherwise) a super acid that could mimic any living thing the human thing to do would be to build a network of inefficient pipes that were obsolete by the time installation was completed.

But we've not found anything like this. There is no place on Earth you can pump out acid like this. Acid does not exist in nature at these concentrations that melt people. This was on Earth, correct? And this was a little in the future, but even so, it just doesn't happen anywhere on the planet.

I think the Doctor should be concerned that this acid is under the island. It's not natural, it's not right, and SOMETHING must be making it there that shouldn't be there.

The fact no one has raised the concern is just bad writing.

Oh, and the way Amy just kind of 'snuck' around the cloud of acid vapor? Her face should have melted off, and her lungs would have been scorched and she should have died drowning in her own blood.

Being concerned with scientific impossibilities in a fantasy program for children about a man with a magic box seems a fool's game, wouldn't you say?
