New Doctor Who Series Discussion *Spoilers*

I've gone on record to say that RTD dropped the ball several times during his tenure. But Moffat has been possibly even more disappointing so far.

As much as I like Smith, he seems quite incompetent compared to previous doctors. None of the stories have been memorable so far. The episode with the Angels was a huge letdown, completely ignoring the established mythology.

I'm sitting it out and hoping things will improve and allow Smith to get his Doctor up to speed.

Very much enjoyed this one. As others have said, the second half was far superior to the first. I'm enjoying the darker turn these episodes are taking. It would have been easy to provide a nice happy, fluffy ending for this one. What we got was much more interesting. The Doctor's fallibility is also an interesting turn. Where's the tension if he's always right and has a solution for everything? I'm surprised how quickly I've accepted (even welcomed) Smith in the role.

QFT, especially that first bit. I quite liked the look of the mask and was a bti disappointed that they didn't look like it underneath.

Exactly. It completely set you up to expect a new, modern-day animatronic take on these characters...then pulled the rug out.

Thats exactly it, cousins to the Silurians, much like the Sea Devils. I disagree that they are more compelling though. More classic yes, but the reasons for the design make just as much sense. Who is not to say that THESE **** Reptila are not later along the evolutionary track according to Doctor Who and thus more "human"

We can't say ****? The name of our species? Just a little boggled by that! Does anyone even use it abusively these days? It must be a couple of decades since I last heard that.

I need to read the Off Topic section more often. I had no idea this thread was even here.

Loving the new season. It's easily the best one so far. The acting is better, the music is better. The whole feel of the show is more fairytale than epic. Matt is a superb doctor. Not really looking forward to the next 2 episodes but I doubt I'll be let down as I haven't been yet this season. I like how the date of Amy/Rory's wedding is the date of the finale.

Anyone else reckon that TARDIS shrapnel would be a cool prop to make/own?

I agree with this post. Except the bit about Van Gogh...that looks brilliant!

Also, collecting pictures to make a piece of TARDIS shrapnel is already underway! :lol

Glad others thought the same thing. There is the concept art on the bbc website for the shrapnel if anyone wants to save that also.

This looks like an awesome prop. It'd be especially good for cosplayers too. No idea what it is but it's from the upcoming episode and was seen in the season preview at the end of episode 1. Looks very cool.

Looks like a VERY complicated rear view mirror XD

Yeah, maybe Vincent painting the monsters comes true and this is some kind of trap for them, they look in the mirror and get sucked in kinda thing? I dunno, looking forward to the episode a bit more after seeing 4 clips of it.

That's brilliant...didn't really get a full view of it from the trailer at the end of episode 9. Still, my favorite of the Doctor's cobbled-together mechanisms is the Timey-Wimey Detector from Blink. Oh man, that's my dream screen-used prop.

Back on track, I'm so excited for the Van Gogh episode. He's one of my favorite artists and I'm interested to see how they work his character.

did anyone catch the River Song Dairy on Blogtor Who??
I love how they use the book to describe the Siluians and other monsters...it was brilliant.
Mobius

Yeah they've been using it for all of The Monster Files this season. I believe that they're going to be on the DVDs too. It's a great way to add pages to the book and have a way of showing them but without showing them on the show. Kinda cool if you ask me.
