New Doctor Who Series Discussion *Spoilers*

Yeah seems like they've got some good figures coming out.

The 4 SDCC exclusives that are known about right now are:

1) Unearthly Child #1 and his Tardis.
2) Jacketless #11 (red shirt/bowtie/suspenders) and scientist (orange) iDalek.
3) #5 (with hat and celery) and Ainley master.
4) Regenerated #5 in #4's outfit.

Heh, I thought this was a New Series discussion. What is all this talk of #1, #5, and #4? ;) :lol

Looking forward to tomorrow's episode, hoping we'll see some cybermen and that it won't be a 2-parter.

Sorry pal, it's a two-parter. First part of the finale.

What?! It's almost OVER?!

Yup. 13 episodes per season (or series, if you're a Brit). We've had 11. After June 26 (the same date as Amy's wedding, by the way), we'll have to wait til Christmas day for another episode. Though we'll probably get a little treat prior to then at the Children in Need special. They always do a 4-6 minute thing for that. Like "Time Crash," which you should fully look up if you haven't seen it.

actually we will be getting a tad more as the good doctor will once again be visiting a Ms Sarah Jane Smith

Holy hellfire, brimstone, darkness and children weeping into the night. Excellent Part 1 of the finale... but can Moff keep the momentum for part 2. Part 2's were always RTD's stumbling block.

And Hoo-****ing-ray... MORE AUTONS! Man i missed those guys :)

Also attention George Lucas... that's how you have a character scream 'NOOOOOO!' when his one true love dies. Just thought that was worth pointing out.

Dammit, why does 7 days have to be so long away!

Superb. And what a list of props to be made!

River's gun
Cyber-dart
Big Cyber-guns
Romans book
and most important of all - Cyber-head with skull!

Very good ep! Nice to see things step up a coupla notches!

When Rivers pulled out that blaster, my Nerf detector went off! Looks like a Maverick grip, maybe some Nitefinder parts?

The Cyberman severed head was creepy cool! Loved that - bet we'll see a few of those done! Plenty of those voice-changer helmets around...

Still bugs me to see those cyber guns swung around like they weigh nothing. Note to BBC prop dept. put some breeze blocks in there or somethin'!

I have to admit, I was sure that was David Tennants voice before the reveal of Smith with the walkie talkie. And another "I'm talking" there too.

Cool that it's the Doc thats the scariest thing in the universe (he's said himself that monsters are scared of him - what did he expect!).

Agreed on that last point!
Not sure why the Weevils, blowfish, etc from Torchwood are there... What'd the Doc ever do to them?
Can't believe they killed Amy, right after (kinda) giving her back Rory! I was really starting to like her! There was also a lot of potential for more backstory there, too.
Anyone else notice that River got a Vortex Manipulator that came from a 'handsome time-agent'? Oh, and she admitted it was the Doctor who taught her to fly the Tardis.
Nice to see Liz 10, again. Not entirely sure why we needed Churchill, though.

^ Were the Weevils / Blowfish there?
I saw the creature that Rose killed with water a few seasons back... Not a Weevil.

Wish we'd seen Zygons and Draconians :(

Not sure that prop needs spoiler code, as it was seen in the trailer last week, but...

River's gun looks like a repaint of the "toy" guns from Gridlock, that the hijackers used to kidnap Martha.

Concept art of the Gridlock guns:

They're definitely inspired by the Nerf Nite-Finder, that's for sure. I can't determine if they're based off of one, or just a very close sculpt. For example, here's a modded nite-finder that's had the bottom bracket thing for holding the darts removed:

Compare that with River holding the gun and it looks like the underside of the trigger guard is spot-on. The overall shape of the handle is close, but the end cap, grip ridges and oval opening for the trigger are all different on the Gridlock/River gun. But they're definitely not the Maverick, which looks like this:

My running hypothesis has been that the BBC prop department got the concept art inspired by the Nite-Finder and either didn't realize it was based on a toy or couldn't get access to a real one, so they sculpted a whole new body from the art. It's the only way I can think to explain how close-but-no-cigar the handle and trigger are. Unless they realy bought a Nite-Finder then resculpted the battery cap, handgrip and trigger opening.

Fantastic First Part- Cracking Good Dr. Who, some nice payoffs, nice cliffhanger name checking some aliens we haven't seen in ages (Zygons, Draconians) - can't wait for next week!

Incredible episode!!! By far the best of the series, I'm so glad we get another ep. next week, they very well could have just ended the season with this on and a huge cliffhanger

I'm so glad they don't do cliffhangers between seasons.

I was like sweet Captain Jack since I've been wanting some past people to cross over to the Smith era. Even with his hand severed I'm sure he would either grow another one or something

Awesome episode, but I've got to ask- With the finale of each season getting bigger and bigger, how the heck are they ever going to top this one?

If you don't want to read spoilers, you shouldn't be in this thread, so I'll give a warning but no tags.

WARNING - SPOILERS

I mean COME ON! Every star in the universe simultaneously exploding!? There really isn't anything worse than that!

Anyways, I can't wait for next week. Does anybody know yet if it's an extra long episode, or just a regular 45 minutes?
