New Doctor Who Series Discussion *Spoilers*

I think you're confusing her with Alaya whose sister, Restac was killed by some Welsh miners. Alaya - Tardis Data Core, the Doctor Who Wiki Your confusion is understandable though, they do tend to look very similar with the makeup on and the actress that plays Vastra also played Alaya & Restac from the episode you're thinking, this is probably what led to the confusion.

Yep, was totally confusing her! :lol Thanks!

I love Matt Smith as the Doctor and as much as I hate to say this.....I am starting to get bored with Doctor Who!

I love Matt as the Doctor and hope he stays a while longer, I just wish that I would get the same feeling from these new episodes that I get when I put in a Hartnell, Troughton, Tom Baker DVD and watch it.

I know what you mean. I never thought I would get to this point but it isn't even appointment TV for me now.
Funny because the very thing that makes it fun and accessible is starting to bore me -- whimsical and light.
I'm ready for a darker Doctor and some real heave crap going down -- none of which will ever happen.

OMG, Neil Gaiman killed the Cybermen!

That was truly the most embarrassing, over-acted, cheesy, infantile episode since the series re-booted.

It's like the late eighties all over again :sick

I don't think it was nearly as strong as "The Doctor's Wife" but it was still pretty solid. Could have done without the children, but at least they got sidelined for half the episode. I'm certainly digging the redesign on the Cybermen and I hope we get to see more of them.

Given that the source of that is The Sun I'm not inclined to believe it. I certainly hope that their "scoop" is bullocks, or I'll probably give up on the show. I don't think that's it's a good way to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the show to say "dear viewers, you've been lied to for eight years."

Plus if Matt is really 12 then they have to deal with how to keep the show going after his successor quits instead of his successor's successor. It seems like a really stupid move to make that an issue that has to be dealt with years sooner than they would otherwise have to just for the sake of introducing a forgotten regeneration for shock value in one episode. It's brave, but utterly stupid and I just find the whole idea repugnant.

Looks like I wasn't the only one relieved this didn't turn into a kiddie romp. Then again, it's Gaiman so I should have known.
I only hope those new Cybermen were just local upgrades because super speed abilities will pretty much make future stories unworkable.

idk but i dont like the new cybermen.
they look to shiny, to friendly, to streamlined, and worst of all, to plasticy.
never once did it feel like they were made of metal.

The new Cybermen really borrow heavily from the design of the Ironman armor.

And while they're new upgrading schtick is a big steal from the Borg, I actually think it's an element that the originals were missing. To hell with conversion chambers. Now they can upgrade you in the field.

I will be hugely disappointed if they name the Doctor. Come on, this is one of those mysteries that should never be revealed.

I remember way back around the Peter Davidson era (I think) when they toyed with the idea that he was actually Rassilon but that's obviously not true now that we've seen Rassilon in the new series.

This production teams thinks they have to keep outdoing themselves for whatever reason. And coming up with answers to questions that need not be answered is a poor substitute for solid, engaging, character-oriented stories.

Of course they won't reveal his name. It's a show called "Doctor Who".

Nightmare in Silver - sort of like the rest of this mini-season...adequate. I love all the references (of course), the couple old aliens in the museum, torchwood blowfish, "Fantastic!", "Allonsy!", etc...thought Smith and Davis turned in great acting performances.

New Cybers were an upgrade. I still wouldn't call them tremendously scary but they're getting there.

The weird thing is there's an 8th Doctor audio ep called "The Silver Turk" about a Cyberman who is used to only play chess.

I liked it. Seems like they are promising an awful lot for next week' season finale.

Regarding the John Hurt rumours, that particular theory has been floating around for some time now, it would make sense as his costume is a direct mix of 8 and 9, also just because it would mean Matt Smith is the 12th Doctor does not mean the end of the show, I always took it that the regeneration limit was set by and enforced by the Timelords, thats why The Master was a renegade, because he found other ways to prolong his life and was eventually given a new life cycle by the Timelords during the Time War. I don't think they'd deliberatly cut short the lifespan of the show to fulfil a plot point in one episode, even if it is the 50th Anniversary.

I know that Moffat has never been a fan of the regeneration limit. I remember reading an article where he was arguing about the validity of the Doctor's truthfulness, since it was the 3rd Doctor that said there were only 12 regenerations. Moffat's point was that the 3rd Doctor also stated that he was over 3,000 years old, so, why do we take one statement as complete truth & then treat the other as a throwaway line.

In my opinion, he's done 2 things already to completely negate the regeneration limit. He had the Doctor lie to the kid on the SJA & say that he had several hundred regenerations, & then he's taken GREAT steps to assure us that the one true fact of the show is that the Doctor lies, Thereby effectively saying that if the only thing we have to go on is the Doctor's word, then the stated fact can be thrown out the window with a simple line about how it was a lie.

So, do we think there will be a "next time" for the 50th anniversary this weekend?

Moffat said if no one posts spoilers on the net about the finale on the early US blu rays shipped out there would be a special video with Smith & Tennant after the finale this weekend.. dunno if it'll be a "next time" but we'll see.
