New Doctor Who Series Discussion *Spoilers*

Did anyone else think that the observatory in the TARDIS was reminiscent/the same as Torchwood Estate from Tooth and Claw?

Loved seeing the interior or the TARDIS, the Pool especially, but yeah, the reset button is just used too much. Also, the dickish brother, how would he remember to not treat his little brother so badly? And if he can remember that, why doesn't Clara remember what she read? Just .. poor writing. Could have been executed better.

Seeing more of the inside of the TARDIS was cool. Especially the pool and the library we heard so much about. Other than that, though, it was kind of blah for me.

I was thinking the same thing about the Clara reading the book she shouldn't have been able to. So I guess the TARDIS wanted her to read it.
Actually, if you look through the Doctor Who Galleries on the official BBC web site, you'll find images of that observatory from "Tooth and Claw", and yes; it really does look identical to the TARDIS' observatory. (If someone is a "rivet counter" they might pour over both images with a magnifying lens and find a few CGI alterations to them, but to the regular observer they are the same.)

This explanation can be very convoluted. The "Big Friendly Button" came back to the Doctor from a future where the brothers were merged, and fell/"melted" into the Eye of Harmony. They became part of the TARDIS (which as she said in "The Doctor's Wife" - 'I exist across all of Time and Space...'), whereas that didn't happen to Clara and she was still her old self. So when that Big Friendly Button reset things, the brothers could have possibly kept a little 'spark' - for that time they were part of the TARDIS and therefor also 'existed across all of Time and Space' - after they were "snapped" back to that point in time just as the TARDIS escaped the magna-grab (especially if it was a strong spark as in the guilt the "dickish" brother felt as he cut his little brother free from the pipe). Clara, on the other hand, not being a part of the TARDIS when that happened, didn't exist across all of Time and Space, and had no memories of those events as, for her, they hadn't happened yet (and never would).

As I said, the explanation could be convoluted. Or, one could always chalk it up to another bit of wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey... stuff.

Dino.

I'm having a hard time giving a darn about Clara! Other than the whole "Who are you, really?" angle, I can't see that she's adding anything to the story. And to be honest, I really don't care who she really is or why there were incarnations of her that died a couple of times!

Rory was a much more interesting character. How cool would it have been if Amy died, but he stayed on board, feeling that there was nowhere else for him to go?

Donna was a much more interesting character than Clara, so was Martha, and while I got sick of Rose and HOW UNIVERSALLY IMPORTANT to the fabric of time and space, she was touted as being, I liked her more than Clara!

Other than she being an enigma that the Doctor wants to solve, her character has not developed into much. I know it's only a few episodes, so far, but at least I was intersted in Amy after one episode.

Maybe she'll grow on me, but as of now, I'm just feeling like it's Mel all over again! So in that respect, I guess it's more like classic Who, which could be called good.....

Seriously? Martha started off, as "Ooh I'm in love with the Doctor" then got puppy eyes for every story after. The most interesting thing about her was her family, and even then, Donna's was more interesting/funny.

Ideas for next companion:
  • Not from modern day
  • Not met the Doctor as a child
  • Not important to saving the universe/time/everything
  • Not flirting/in love with the Doctor

You'll be lucky to get half of those for the next companion.

Martha at least left the TARDIS of her own choosing, none of the other companions have (Amy and Rory did come back after all). Gotta give her some credit for that. And she was the least "important to the universe" of the main companions since the relaunch. She just unfortunately had to follow fan favorite Rose, and was saddled with the already worn out loving the Doctor schtick.

Can someone explain to what the big, friendly, reset button actually did? I mean, yeah, cool meta gag, but how did it work?

The button didn't really reset anything. It was the remote to the magna grab and when he pushed it it just turned off the magna grab and let them get away. I think the scene after he hits the button is some time later after the TARDIS has been repaired.

I halfway wonder if the Magna-Grab wasn't an attempt to explain why the TARDIS exploded back in season/series 5.

I was thinking the same thing!!!

Don't even get me started on Martha! She was TOTALLY robbed by the writers! She deserved not only to not be all gaga over The Doctor, but she also deserved for Tennant to STFU about Rose. She had the potential to be a GREAT companion, but the writers ruined her.

I liked Journey. Maybe not the episode I would have written but it was fun. The android thing seemed tacked on like it was an idea from some other episode. Man, I hope they do explain the TARDIS exploding but I've sort of let that one go.

I say "boo" to this:

The new issue of Doctor Who Magazine (#460) which is released tomorrow reveals that David Tennant is the only past Doctor who will be appearing in the 50th Anniversary Special.
The magazine also confirms that Christopher Eccleston was approached to take part, but he will not be appearing.
Show boss Steven Moffat says of the special episode that will see David Tennant and Matt Smith join forces "We can't make this all about looking backward..."
Other cast confirmed for the episode include Jenna-Louise Coleman, Billie Piper, Joanna Page and John Hurt.

The Mel analogy is a great one. Both characters appeared and the production was like, "we'll tell you who they are later, we promise you'll like them!" and then never did. I really don't know *anything* about Clara. It's such a complete misfire. And I can't help thinking that the whole thing was because Moffat wanted to reuse someone he'd cast in an episode where their character died.

This frustrates the poo out of me. It's the 50th for crying out loud!

If Moffat is a fan, then how in the world can he not realize WE WANT CLASSIC DOCTOR'S in the 50th!

What about the news a few months back that Tom was cast to be in it?

So let me get this straight! You cut series 7 in half, showing "Part A' instead of a complete series 7. We then get "Part B" instead of a complete series 8. (So they cut us a complete 13 episodes this year by doing it) Then the BIG 50th is a 90 minute special with ONE past Doctor!

I could have forgiven the LACK OF AN 8TH SERIES if we had had a really big 50th with past Doctor's and etc.

But this.....this.....REALLY?

I thought that this was the BBC's big show!

What a way to go BBC and Moffat....really tick off the fans with empty promises and robbed episodes!

I think someone needs to tell them the definition of anniversary. The entire point of an anniversary is looking back on the past and seeing what you've done/accomplished.

Going with just the new guys, and just 2 since one opted not to join in, isn't celebrating the past at all.

No other serial has reached 50 years of production, period. Should have been the biggest anniversary show ever. Sticking in a theater and doing 3D - big whoop.
