New Doctor Who Series Discussion *Spoilers*

The face was Richard E Grant, Dr Simeon from Doctor who and the Snowmen, it was the face of "The great Intelligence"

I totally loved this episode.
It also seems to me that the doctor is showing a lot more outward emotion to Oswin than he did toward Amy.

Oh great! Another multi-episode story arc........ :facepalm

I would have been excited if we heard it was Billie and Eccleston, they were great together. Even if we got Tennant and Tate, I would have loved it. But not Ten and Rose.

Anyone else think that it was River that gave her the help line phone number? She said it was just some woman in a shop, who told her it was the "best helpline in the universe". Who else knows how to get ahold of the doctor better than River?

River doesn't use the phone though, she defaces archeological finds to get ahold of him. I doubt she knows the number.

Saying a girl in a shop would suggest Rose at first glance, since she was a girl who worked in a shop. I doubt that's it though. Give it six or seven weeks, we'll find out.

River makes more sense than Rose. There was never any indication that Rose knew the number to the TARDIS, while it seems like a given that River would. And yes, River's method of getting his attention is through time travel and historical manipulation, but she can't exactly expect Clara to be able to do that.

Whoever it was clearly knows the Doctor, and how to ring the TARDIS directly. That narrows it down quite a bit.

Of course River makes more sense, I never claimed otherwise. I said it was unlikely to be Rose, just observing that Rose had been described as a "girl in a shop" back during Nine's tenure.

Observing that River never actually uses the phone has nothing to do with expecting Clara to fubar something that ends up in a museum in the future so the Doctor comes running. The premise of my argument is that River did not give Clara the number specifically because she hasn't ever called him on screen

To counter my own argument though, River did say that she fubars museum pieces because the Doctor doesn't answer his phone. Hard to tell with River if she's being facetious or not, being River and all.

Gary, I doubt we'll be lucky enough to see Sally again. I think I'm okay with that though after all this time. Eleven isn't "her Doctor" and if she was to do anything with him her boyfriend would have to tag along so they could play up the Sparrow and Nightingale schtick. So soon after Amy and Rory it'd just be retreading old ground having a couple on the TARDIS where the girl is the one figuratively wearing the pants in the relationship. Plus bad things tend to happen to the Doctor's companions in the new series, and I'd just as soon Sally got a happily ever after.

I'm going to go an re-watch the Tenth Doctor episode 'The Wire'.

For some reason I seem to remember it was very much similar to the Bells of Saint John.

I'm probably in the minority on this, but I really don't care for Oswin at this point. She's a little too... Mary Sue for my taste.

She'll probably grow on me given time, but right now I just don't like her much.

Aren't all companions pretty much a Mary Sue on behalf of the audience?

(Oops double post)

Anyone else watch this and wish they could hack themselves so they could push the sliders for IQ and creativity up?
Overall I loved this, certainly liking Clara for the feisty, answer back to the Doctor attitude, although at the moment she's very much in the Amy mould which (together with the mystery) might explain why the Doc's so taken with her.

I think what bothers me is that she's SO much like him right now. The Doctor is pretty zany so bringing in someone who's essentially at least as, if not more, zany is kind of grating on me, I think. Yeah, Amy was a little wacky but once she got over the residual childhood adoration of the Doctor and their relationship became more brother-sisterly, it was beautiful.

I'm hoping that either Clara chills out a little and becomes a little more 'stable' or this will herald a mellowing of the Doctor and result in a paternal-sibling type relationship... because let us not forget, he's still married to River so a love affair with Clara would be wrong on multiple levels.

I think in the more logical of the timelines, he's no longer married to River. He WAS married to her before they got married, at least as far as she was concerned.

How exactly would it work though with them roughly meeting in the opposite order relative to their personal timelines? Is he married to her until that last date when he knows it's the last time he'll see her in his personal timeline, or is he already a widower because he saw her die before they were married? All wibbly wobbly.

Has it been stated by Moffat one way or the other if River will be back? If she's definitely not coming back I'd say he's no longer married, otherwise he is until he regenerates or we're told definitively he doesn't see her again/no more guest spots.

Another question. If she does/did meet Twelve at some point before she died were they still married? Twelve is still basically going to be the Doctor, but not the man she married. Must make Time Lord marriage awfully confusing.
