New Doctor Who Series Discussion *Spoilers*

My guess is that it's not the last we've seen of the Ponds and that the good old Doctor will find a way to fix things. It's not the first "Rose" he would have pulled.

Also did anyone notice they went on foot from Central Park to Brooklyn via Times Square in a matter of two sentences. They must be moving faster than angels at top speed.

I have to say that this was one of the best episodes of DW for a while, and certainly the best of the current run. Apart from the dalek episode, this was the only episode to hold my attention and I was hooked for the whole episode. I don't think that I even watched the end of the dinosaurs one.
Although I did notice the lack of angel rules as some people have mentioned, that didn't really bother me. The angels remained scary and a real threat. The cherubs were very disturbing, and I loved the trapped angel behind the curtains.
I thought the first sequence involving the book to locate River and Rory was very clever, and reminded me of the homebox sequence from time of angels.
The Pond farewell was great. Really sad, clear and final, without being too sad unlike the RTD send offs which usually took up half the episode (which left me feeling really annoyed when thy returned).
I have to say I love Moffat's writing, but he should really think more about the 'in between' episodes and the writers.

That aspect was covered by the line that the Angels were "taking over" all the statues in NYC. My biggest issue was it isn't stone so how could they do that with the Statue of Liberty without it looking very different?

People are in it every day. And if while a small statue I believe can be small enough an entire city won't be able to see it, the Statue of Liberty walking through the city SOMEONE is going to see it and it should be stopped in place, and people will scream and yell and point at it and then others will see it and there will always be someone looking at it and it'll be stuck in place again.

Fixed event. Can't mess with it.

Called that. :) I thought it was a good creepy episode. Angels were very scary, and I thought the cherubs were very well done and creepy. The love between Amy and Rory was well balanced I thought - not overdone and melodramatic, not snarky Amy as we have seen before.

The "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry" was very Tennant-ish. I didn't care about the Statue of Liberty. It was just a gimmick. If it took up any time or had anything to do with the plot then maybe I'd care.

He's not going back to see them.

I LOVE that they finally explained the scene in the 11th Hour where young Amelia is sitting there waiting and you hear the Tardis but never see anything. I have always wondered what happened there and admittedly, after two seasons I gave up thinking they were ever going to wrap that up. As soon as she started talking about it in the afterword I was ecstatic. That was the most touching part of the episode for me.

edit: The scene in 11th hour is at 55:55. So glad they tied that up. The Girl Who Waited created the Girl Who Waited.

Yep...that was the sore thumb to me. See, I still believe that here is a bigger overall arc that Moffat is telling. Some folks believe there is a fairytale/dream/story from the Library thing going on, & when I saw that particular scene, all I could think about was how Inception gave clues to the entire movie being a dream. Characters went from place to place, continuing conversations across great distances, with no explanation of how or why.

That would retroactively KILL this episode. :thumbsdown

I've said it before and I'll say it again. When Rose left it was powerful and very well done. It's her coming back that made it insignificant. I personally hope that we never see Amy & Rory again.

It would be nice not to see River again but now that she's "professor" I'm sure they're going to add a scene at some point where he give her the future sonic. Probably at the end of 11's run.

I didn't really understand how that whole young Amelia thing worked. Did he actually go see her, in which case the girl who waited would never have existed, or what? She asked him to go back and see her, wouldn't that create a paradox? I'm slow, and right now I do not comprehend.

Don't get me wrong, I totally agree. I was just explaining why the "there's pictures of if being built" wasn't an issue.

It's still dumb. REALLY dumb.

I guess so far as people seeing it (which I noticed as well, how the hell does it get there without being forced to stop by prying eyes???) I noticed NYC was pretty damn empty. Maybe everyone was just too terrified to look. :lol

It seems to me he was just trying to get that kid to shut up with the "507" line.

I'm still going to stick with the 12 regenerations/13 lives thing.

I think it will make for a more interesting story if there is some sort of larger jeopardy regarding the regenerations.

Okay but not terrific episode IMO. Not a huge fan of the angels to begin with, even less so when they don't follow the rules.

Amy and Rory tragically time locked. Yaaaaawn. Rose was supposedly lost, Donna went back to her old mediocre self and was essentially lost. These tragic endings for the companions are getting so commonplace they have no impact anymore. I'm surprised they don't go back and shoot Martha in the head just to even things out.

I would have just liked Amy and Rory to have a normal life and have dinner with the Doctor occasionally.

I agree. :)

The Doctor lies.

Sure, when the time comes he'll find some way to get around the 12 regenerations bit, but the 507 is just rubbish.

Slightly OT but regarding the Statue of Liberty being an Angel, if a tv screen can be an Angel and a mental image of an Angel can be an Angel whose to say that the Statue wasn't built in the image of one. Being stone is not seemingly a requirement.

Having said that, the whole Statue of Liberty turning into an Angel just smacked of "why not do it?!". It just had no reason for being there.

AND I now have the mental image of the Statue sneaking around New York, ducking behind buildings so no one will see her.

As a main focus to a story it would have been great. As it is, silly throwaway nonsense of the bad variety.

"I wonder if she's Steven Moffat under there. She's a plot contrivance. You do know that?"
