New BMF coming

Yeah, the cost of everything via printed parts becomes prohibitive quickly; however, I must say I ordered up Tony's engine grills and they look incredible so recommended. Got me thinking I should pick up some floor grates too, since those would be a real trick to fabricate by hand. With the cast resin sets and Shapeways parts, I must be pushing near $300 on this project so far. Then again, I expect I will be getting 'entertainment value' from the modeling for a couple of years... I have also repurposed a TV wall mount (for old CRT set) which I plan on using to display it once finished.

Yup, minor insanity...

I can get you just about everything you need to fully upgrade your Falcon for $150. I agree that the cost of these parts is typically very high which is why I'm trying to sell them for less than others have been.

So you have more than one set?

Sir Charles, 3D printing quality is subject to a great many variables. Can you say anything specifically about how your parts are made? For example, material, print layer resolution, etc. I'm going back through the thread to see if you have already posted images... I just know printing is time consuming and (depending on material & design) somewhat costly.

Tony's items, cast in resin, have proven very nice & less expensive than the Shapeways printed option. However, not all of his parts are suitable for casting so you're looking at a mix if you go for the 'full Monty'.

As I intend to generate my own interior for my model, I'm probably not a customer for all the (wonderful) goodies he offers but certainly some will be great time-savers - especially if I can get him to resize some of the Deagostini parts down a bit for the Hasbro MF.

Regards, Robert

Oh, yes there is the link to Sir's build thread, above... showing images of the parts he's printed. For example, this is the link to one of his posted images, in original full size:

Perhaps this is opening a previously popped can of worms, but is anyone considering converting the Hasbro into a replica of the 5-footer version? I suspect, other than the 'greeblie' details there is also an issue with the plating panels needing conversion. I seem to recall the discussion on how the cockpit cone & hull are already representative of the 5-footer, but then just about everything else would need 'fixing'... which is why most everyone is using the 32" model details for their projects...

I need to dig into it myself, obviously.

Cheers!

You mean you're doing a Hasbro as the 5-footer or an actual 5-footer?

yippee, either way!

Hey guys I am in need of some help. Finishing up my first conversion while I await the resin upgrade kit from tony/mike before I start my display piece and I want to give it some basic lights. 2 head lights and an engine glow.I am looking to run it off a battery pack and was looking for some advice on how everyone else has done their lighting (love some with the twinkling engine glow) sadly I'm a bit of a newb with model lighting. If anyone could share their Falcon lighting build tips or anything I would greatly appreciate it.

Hey this is a chance for creation of a 'how-to' brochure...!

There are several threads for guys doing their Hasbros so those are the best places to look. Though, thinking about it, a Christmas wreath lighting kit probably would do the trick... they tend to work off a battery case & have LED's (these days, anyway.)

I get all my lighting and LED supplies from here: http://www.modeltrainsoftware.com great prices, awesome inventory, and all the LEDs are prewired and resistored. You can run about 50 off one single 9v battery! :)

Hey rbreach84, to answer your question I am 3d printing them with white ABS plastic. They come out with a little bit of texture in places but a little sanding work smooths it out nicely. Gluing them is easy as you just use a bit of acetone and they mold together as if they were one to begin with. And painting seems to work fine, all primers and paints stick to the plastic nicely and I have ha no problems with it so far.

You can find my thread with images of them all here. http://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=248398

I'm only up to page 9 but what about grabbing the cannons and housings from the Deagostini MF? Would it work on the Hasbro or would they be too big?
