New BMF coming

I'm pretty sure I saw on SSM that Johnny Crash (forum name) of MMI is planning on making a photo etch set for the Hasbro falcon. I'm planning on getting it also because their other etch parts are very well done.

Mojo Rising, thanks for the patterns for the panels! :) Now all I need is the Hasbro :( Incidentally, I can see they've started selling them online at Walmart.ca but not in the stores so far.

By the way, for the decals, I got a set from Jason back in 2011, which included the Falcon - It's more geared toward the 5-footer, though.

It had the Drive Safely decal.

But I believe Jim "Jimbo" Botaitis still offers them (although I got mine roughly around the same time for my Hasbro conversion). The Jimbo ones are slightly bigger but I remember they were available in different scales. It's got the Drive Safely decal as well and everything else and a beautiful set of instructions, which mentions his site as http://www.jbot.ca

Alas, like so many others have lamented on many threads across the interweb Jbot is not taking any new orders for quite some time now and is presumed out of business.

That sucks about jbot. I've decided to go all in and convert my BMF into the ANH 5-footer (even going to remove the two forward landing gear boxes) and those decals are a must have! If anyone knows an alternate place to get them, send me a PM.

So, here we have a mystery that I feel only the experts at the RPF can solve. Notice the photo. On the left is the cockpit noes from our beloved Hasbro BMF. On the right is a Shapeway part that is supposedly designed for the 1/48 studio scale falcon model that is now out of print.

As you can see the size differential is substantial. What we have here is a competing truth. How can the studio scale model be 1/48 scale at 32 inches long and the Hasbro model be of a slightly smaller scale at 28 inches long and yet the Hasbro nosecone is significantly larger?

Eeither this Shapeways provider needs a lesson in using a ruler or the cockpit on the Hasbro falcon is way out of scale. Any thoughts?

here's a link to the allegedly 1/48 scale nose cone. http://www.shapeways.com/model/1965126/1-48-o-scale-mf-cockpit.html?materialId=6

You might want to check again. I ordered on-line, but picked it up in the store and there were seven of them stocked on the floor. But look around, at my local store they weren't with the other toys, but in a display of larger toys in the seasonal promotion area near the store's front door. I've also heard tales of these things being stocked with Lawn and Garden stuff of all things. So, they're definitely getting out there. Ask an employee.

That is definitely not 1/48 scale. Even though it's not the correct scale for the new Hasbro Falcon he could possibly be referring to the short lived "1/48" SMT Falcon which I believe was 27in in length as it is too big for the MPC kit. The provider should be specifying exactly which kit this is made for.

I don't know about the 1/48 version the nosecone is supposed to fit, but one of the proportion errors kit makers always make when it comes to the Falcon is trying to justify the proportions with the interior sets or the full scale mock ups seen in the movies. On the 5-footer especially, the cockpit IS large compared to the rest of the ship and the hull is fatter. If you put a scaled ANH interior cockpit in the 5-footer there's no way the other sets, the cargo hold and the gun ports, would ever fit in the rest of the ship at the same scale. To my eye, the BMF is the closest I've seen to getting this over-sized cockpit proportion right, but the hull is thinner and less curved like the smaller 32-inch version.

Jbots site has the following sizes :SMT 1/48 ERTL-AMT 1/68 or 32" Which one would be correct for this Falcon?

Re: New BMF coming
If you go through the check out process you'll discover that right before you are about to commit to the order (and after you enter your CC info) the message pops up that says they are no longer taking orders.

do a high rez scan of the sheets before you cut them up. They may be the only ones left in existence since JBOT is defunct.

I sent the Provider a private message through Shapeways about what model this was for here is the reply below:

"It is not for the MPC falcon, or any commercially available kits. This is a custom 1/48 scale, and the 5' Footer Studio Scale".

So his coustom 1/48 scale version had a smaller cockpit than Hasbors 1/48 scale? Makes no sense.

I don't know what measurements he's using to base his cockpit on but it would seem this custom Falcon is a whole lot smaller. I have also noted now he has changed the description to include "Please note, this will not fit the MPC, or any commercially available kits."

And in case the person is a member here this is not meant to detract from the effort he has put into creating this part. Just merely a critical observation.
