New big-screen Star Wars Rey movie announced at SW Celebration 2023

I went to SW Celebration in London, just one day of it, yesterday (Friday), there was a lot of costuming, mainly Mandalorians, Jedis, Stormtroopers etc

Spotted one First Order Stormtrooper & one small girl dressed as Rey

Sequel cosplay wasn’t represented

Also,….I think Grogu will be in Reys film, a lot of time has passed, he would be talking by then

J

Yeah, I have to think there must be some plot reason why they’re setting this so far ahead.
If she's rebuilding the Jedi Order, then, distance allows there to already be students - some completing their training etc. We saw Anakin as a padawan, we saw luke learn, we saw Rey learn, we don't need to see a new crew learn again. Forming a new order would be theoretically more interesting than just training people.

Given - a trainee will go bad. Whether that happens in film or before is the only real quesiton.

I look at Rey very much in the same way I looked at Cassian Andor. He was serviceable in his role in ROGUE ONE, but nothing really struck me. Then, you put THAT CHARACTER in the hands of the team working on ANDOR, & I'm all in for it.

You take the character of Rey & place it in the hands of a capable writer/director that has an actual story to tell, & I might feel differently about her.

I think I could make it to at least the title card: “A Long Time Ago…In A Galaxy Far, Far Away…”

I would squirm in my seat a bit when the music starts and the title hits the screen: Star Wars…

But, once the main crawl starts with: “Jedi Master Rey SKYWALKER has something, something, something…”. I’ll throw up a bit in my mouth and have to exit the theater.

The only problem with that is that Rey isn't a Skywalker, she's a Palpatine.

Here's an idea no one ever tried in Star Wars:

Instead of "A Long Time Ago In A Galaxy Far, Far Away...", how about:

"HERE. NOW."

Go about 3-5000 years ahead of the ST and have a Neo-Sith fleet find a way to go to an outside galaxy.

OURS.

Whatever passes for Jedi (or whatsuch) in that time period has to stop them before they gain a foothold in this galaxy and build up a fleet to wreck their original one.

Or to put it another way:

Who here doesn't want to see a bunch of Star Destroyers hovering over NYC and LA?

I was about to type the same thing. Anything can be made to work in the right hands.

I’ve spent years on this forum crapping on Rogue One and the worst character in it, Andor McScowlface, and now he’s one of my fave characters from the best Star Wars since the OT.

I liked Rey!… until that last atrocious movie - but still wasn’t a Rey issue for me (pretty much everything was bad). But Daisy is a likeable actress and given the right movie, I think she’d be great

That’s usually the trope Hollywood falls in when they don’t have a budget…

He man… but they end up in a portal to New York!

Smurfs… but a portal to New York!

A third movie!… cuz rule of thirds but I can’t think of one!

Anyway fish outta water jedi in New York will maybe happen when they can’t get Disney to pay up for more Star Wars

Considering how bad the last movie was, who needs a budget? :D

I have joked about it but officially she is a Skywalker because she rejected her links to the Palpatine name, whether we like it or not.

In real life I can relate to that with my own situation, so despite thinking they handled it terribly, I don’t really have as much of an issue accepting that her surname is Skywalker. I just really wish that they had planned it and dealt with it better.

As an aside, it’s not really much different to when people take their spouse’s surname after marriage/civil ceremony. I quite like how Icelanders still use patronymics.

& the writer of ‘Peaky Blinders’ has me interested

I actually liked that series, although they could have represented Paddy Maine a bit better

J
Fair enough. Yes Paddy Mayne was completely mis-represented in the series, which was odd considering the book they adapted was really quite good at getting across the complexities of him.

Let's hope the story won't be the utter crap that the sequels are. But my hopes are so low, that I believe a movie about a Dianoga marrying a Hutt princess could be more interesting.
