New big-screen Star Wars Rey movie announced at SW Celebration 2023

Totally agreed. Also, word on the inside is that her contract has a clause that she cannot be fired "for cause". So even failure to perform won't work.

However, at the risk of getting too conspiracy-theorish, word on the inside also suggests there are emails from KK on file regarding Gina Carano's firing. So it's kind of a mutually-assured-destruction thing. You burn me, I burn you.

Thanks God we won't have that woman act in SW ever again. Ever since she turned to Han on the Falcon and say she words 'Luke Skywalker' like a human version of 3P0 I detested her acting.

And when she said ' Rey...Skywalker' that made it all real.

Stupid bint

I don't think any of it is implausible. It sounds like the standard boardroom warfare that happens at big corps.

It sounds conspiratorial when an internet rando like me says: "Iger is denying funding to KK". But I was just speculating & skipping all the nuance. The longer (and probably more accurate) version goes like this:

"Iger has become skeptical of KK's ability to produce a successful SW movie. He doesn't trust her creative choices like before and he is demanding lower budgets to minimize the risks. The Rey Skywalker movie is stalling because of their disagreements."

According to Mike Zeroh, KK will hold a press conference on April 1st, 2025 to announce the possibilty that she believes that she might be, for all intents and purposes, possibly be temporarily releasing more future possibilities that she probably believes that she might be willing to entertain doing...possibly.

Ah if Zero says it, it must be true. Its not like he has been wrong before...
Maybe KK doesn't have the power to push anything through anymore.

I think it's a situation where Bob Iger cannot fire KK but he can deny her funding. There hasn't been a big new SW movie greenlit since before Covid. 'The Acolyte' got finished, but that was a long-brewing project that already had inertia behind it.

Iger is running out the clock on KK. He's betting she won't want to continue in this lame-duck position forever. It only gets more embarrassing to her legacy as time goes on. She will retire voluntarily sooner or later.
Maybe. The split between Knight and Lucasfilm was apparently because he couldnt hack the script despite 4 drafts because he kept getting notes from Kennedy though so it me (after replacing other writers), this sounds like Kennedy also getting in the way of any decent script that challenges Rey in a way she doesnt like. I suppose Iger purposefully giving her no budget so that the script needs to be rewritten to be affordable on a shoestring budget could be behind it as well.

I’m still excited for a Rey movie and I’m fine with waiting for the project to be delayed if it means a really great script instead of rushing a poorly written piece of junk into theaters. Rey is one of my favorite SW characters up with Darth Vader, Ben Kenobi, Luke Skywalker, and others, so I’m hopeful they will do her character (and Finn) right with a really good new movie.

Zeroh has been predicting KKs firing for a long time, since… oh, before you were born

I liked Rey after TFA...but i hate what was done with her in TLJ and TRoS. It tarnished any chance the character really had frankly.
