New 10th Doctor Sonic Screwdriver Universal Remote

what's the chance an extendable 11th doctor sonic will be produced?

As stated earlier in the thread, they are open to more sonics in the future if this one performs well. (Which it seems to be) They've also said they've considered doing a kickstarter for the less popular sonics. (ie. River Song's) With direct regard to the 11th's they've said that it would require a complete retooling and would necessarily be a more expensive product which makes it questionable whether or not it would sell well to a mainstream audience.

...all that said, they've also said that they aren't going to be doing any sonic projects for at least a year while they do other products on their roadmap that aren't Doctor Who related.

So it's possible, but it might take some waiting...and a bit more cash. In the meantime, the sonic conversions that people are doing here with the 11th's sonic is probably your best bet for an affordable, metal, extending replica.

Richard, Chris, feel free to correct anything I've misstated.

I spoke to Richard and Chris at the Doctor Who celebration, they were keen to know which screwdriver would be preferred for their next one. They cannot do any custom sonics, they would have to be remote control sonics due to the constraints of the licence. There is also a project they are working on, that will take much of their time for a while. They are great guys, very helpful and patient.

Well, I think lots of folks are keen to see a 3rd or 4th Doc's screwdriver. Probably 4th because Tom is more popular, and anyone wanting a Pertwee can probably mod it easy enough.
Other than that, and given that any new projects won't be for a while, I'd suggest waiting to see if Capaldi gets a new sonic and if it's cool enough to replicate.

The wand company is hoping for a new sonic is desIgned for Peter Capaldi as well.

I thought I'd post here, for anyone who's been planning on ordering one. ThinkGeek is giving a 20% discount on orders over $40 until Nov. 30 with the code "Blackmagic".

I believe they give free shipping on orders over $70 which means you could get a screwdriver for about $80 this week.

I though the same thing but the total for a sonic with this code was just under $93. Still saving a little bit.

Hmm. You're right. It looks like they remove the shipping discount when you enter the code. Mine came to $86.43 though.

Yup they dont let you combine discounts, really crappy. That was how cheap I got mine though.

Well, for the next sonic I would like to see McGann's from TVM and the NOTD short episode. I have a metal 4th doctor's already. (But I would get one if TWC made it) Actually, if it's a sonic at the $100.00 price range and it shuts off TV's at Best Buy...I'm getting it.

By the way...My daughter (14) and I had a blast yesterday turning off the TV's at Best Buy. She felt "like the Doctor" having such power in her hand! :lol

You pretty much stated everything correctly - thanks!

Thanks also to everyone for your suggestions of other sonic screwdrivers that you'd like to see made in the future, and to those of you that came along to say hello to us at the anniversary event in London over the weekend - it was very nice to meet you all.

Hmm, I suppose a Romana sonic would be too small (in size and customer base) to make a remote? Doesn't give the daughters (and other females) much chance to "feel like The Doctor", unless we really do get a regeneration into a female. It could work, just look at Curse of Fatal Death Joanna Lumley makes a brilliant Doctor.

Edit: Wait, I'm forgetting River's Sonic - used by a female who can regenerate and marries the Doctor, so I suppose that counts? :D

If we are putting our votes in for the future: I vote River's sonic, 100000% (Too many zeroes?)

The neural relay could be interesting piece to see how TWC works it into the functionality. Blinking lights? I'm sure you guys could come up with something brilliant.

By the way I just got back from seeing the Day of the Doctor in theaters, dressed as the 10th Doctor. I had my Wand Company 10th Remote with me and it was a hit...I even covertly tried to turn off the projector. :lol Seriously, everyone with one of the CO toys wanted to see mine and were all blown away by it. I told them all about it, so hopefully you guys will have a few new customers tonight.

Agreed. I would buy the s4!t out of one of those.

Charge level indicator seems most obvious. I'm not entirely happy with how little information Ten's design gives on battery life. Having more options than "no information at all" and "out of power" would be nice....

The only problem I see with producing a 3/4/5/8 sonic is that the gesture based control would not be as easy to implement. With the "wand" style sonics you have a far smoother range of motions that the device can easily detect. I think it would be a little impractical to have those in the vertical classic era sonic.

Hmm, the orientation could pose a problem for the vertical sonics... As a test, anyone who has a 10 or 11 could try using it vertically. You might need to be closer/lower than usual to ensure the signal reaches the TV and not the ceiling, but it might prove interesting.
