NeoRutty's Prop Projects - ANH Stunt Stormtrooper Bucket - Pointers requested?

Re: Finishing my Prop Projects - ANM2 / Broadsword Parts arrival

So a few parts arrived today (Thanks, Roy)

Since Roy beat me out of the gates getting the broadsword put together, I figure I would make this one a SEQUEL and go with an ESB version...

I still have an idea for a different piece to hold the cross section together... But I will happily use Roy's 3D print as a temp in the mean time. May try and clean it up/paint it as well...

So I will have to cut the T-tracks for rivets (yeah I'm going rivets on this one)... And I have a replica red button somewhere...

I originally thought of attaching a kobold style d-ring to the back (as pictured) but now that I have it in hand, it looks weird. may hang the d-ring from the bottom, and figure another attachment higher up... thoughts?

This will also eventually be my first attempt to wire up electronics... going to be a bit of research on that one... and I gotta wait for some cash flow - early research has informed me that it's not cheap.

So what does everyone think, rivets top and bottom? or just bottom like the original ESB?

I'm thinking top and bottom.

Re: Finishing my Prop Projects - Broadsword Roy Parts have arrived!

Nice! I like the ESB version. I'm curious about the riveted T-tracks and the electronics. Are you going to include light(s) and sound?

Re: Finishing my Prop Projects - Broadsword Roy Parts have arrived!

Since this is almost double the size of Luke's ESB ... I'd say double rivets and/or screws in those T-tracks ... top and bottom :)

Re: Finishing my Prop Projects - Broadsword Roy Parts have arrived!

What about rivets Top, Bottom AND Middle.
It is a Bi-hander why not let it look like it has to seperate grip parts. One for each hand. It would just be an optical seperation but I think it would add to the look.

Light and sound is the plan... but that's going to be a bit of research... never done that before. I picked up a little project that needed basic lighting so I could get a feel for it, then I'll be hunting out tutorials and such on wiring this up. I've seen Kylo hilts done up... how hard can it be?!?!

Famous last words.

Before I do up the electronics, I think I'll find a replica top... Romans or an old Parks. I will have to drill into the graflex so may as well just shew up a replica.

I was thinking 3 rivets at first, but the t-track are actually not as long as you'd think... I think it would look to crowded.

Ah I see.
So what about Bottom and 2/3 up?
So part of the upper hand would lie on the clamp/activation board anyway.
Just put the rivets in a way that wielding won't be uncomfortable to.your hands [emoji6]

Re: Finishing my Prop Projects - Broadsword Roy Parts have arrived!

I think rivets sound cool (top and bottom is my vote).
Also, you could spray the 3Dprinted part in conductive paint and then nickel plate it.

As for the Kobold, is your intention to wear this on your back Conan-style or to hang from your belt?

I think for comfort I'm only going to go top and bottom. jagged corners in the middle would suck....

I don't actually intend to wear it at all, heh. BUT... in the world where someone would, I would say the belt.

if the D-clip is on the end, it's aesthetically fine for me, but it would bang up the knee bad...

I don't like the idea of a covertech nob, so the end of the hilt may be the winner.

Re: Finishing my Prop Projects - Broadsword Roy Parts have arrived!

Was I drunk??

I started unpacking the FUN boxes from the move, and finally was reunited with my packed away props...

But was a little surprised to find this:

I have ZERO recollection of gluing these tracks on my ESB version... None at all.

I'm heading to my buddy in Seattle next weekend, so I was specifically looking for this saber and t-track so I can get the holes drilled and add the exactra screws I've collected (with the help of Chaim). I had a plan in my head how to do it, but now it looks like I'll rework the plan for drilling the track while already attached.

Not going to be a problem, but still... don't remember this at all... Saber gnomes? I'm Dutch... this IS a possibility.

This is actually the first saber I bought... I think I got it for around 120 bucks on a BIN... I wasn't too happy with the worn look at the time, but now I love it. I'm definitely going for the worn saber look on this one.

So since the track is already on, may as well add the track to the ESB style Crossguard saber... which I'm thinking rivets over screws....

OR maybe, since I have black and silver screws from Roy, maybe I'll just do screws for now, and decide for rivets later. I mean, really, it's easier to go from screws to rivets, than the other way around.

Re: Finishing my Prop Projects - Found a suprise when digging out my ESB Saber...

My graflexes are still just sitting there, so even if it was a drunken stupor, you're still ahead of me...

Same here :wacko

Re: Finishing my Prop Projects - Found a suprise when digging out my ESB Saber...

Ditto... I have my t-tracks cut and ready to go.... but that's about it :(

Re: Finishing my Prop Projects - Found a suprise when digging out my ESB Saber...

There really is something weird about not getting the simplest things done...

I've done way more complicated projects for friends, even my daily job is a giant pain... but getting around to adding t tracks to a flash and it's 2.5 years later.

Re: Finishing my Prop Projects - Found a suprise when digging out my ESB Saber...

So ... what ya waitin' for ... get it done ... get it done :$

Re: Finishing my Prop Projects - Found a suprise when digging out my ESB Saber...

Got to my my buddy's place to do a little finishing... got through quite a bit (but not as much as I wanted to...)

Still, when I arrived, I pulled out all the sabers I needed drilling, or cuts, or just solutions to problems...

And top of my list was to FINALLY finish the ESB saber...

More pics tomorrow!

Re: Finishing my Prop Projects - weekend of tinkering.

It's time!

I bought this graflex 2.5 years ago... my first purchase. It was beat up and I had the knee jerk reaction of "can this be replated?!"

Now while I've actually found really clean graflexs since, I've really grown to love the slightly weathered, brass showing through, look of this flash, and planned on making my ESB out of it...

A long time coming... finishing it off.

I opted for the screws in the grips, but if I were going to do screws, I wanted to do something different, so managed to get ahold of 6 Exactra screws. When I pulled them out of storage last week, I was confused to find they had turned black/brown with white patches... no idea why. It was a sealed, dry bottle. I tried to derust them, but the mix I used just turned them dark black. I was about to write them off when my friend suggested maybe they were just burned, and we could lightly sand off the black.

Well it worked, and they look crazy good. I wish the pics showed it. They have this weird patina... they aren't silver, they aren't brown, they just looks shiny and old. Couldn't be happier.

So with those screws in, after 2.5 years, the saber is complete.

Red button from ScottJua

Exactra screws from Chaim

I wish I could remember where I got the card... but credit if anyone knows... (Also may be in upside down... have to look that up! heh)

The D-ring is Roys...

Gino Grips

all I would like to do to this saber is weather up the grips a bit somehow... will look into that.

Also, I cut down the inner edges of the D-ring on so that the piece where it connects to the kobold replica was straight across. IF this isn't how it's supposed to be, and it's really supposed to be slighly angled due to being stretched, let me know... I couldn't find reference (if that makes sense)

Can't believe it took so long to get this done... ah procrastination....
