Neill Blomkamp's Chappie (Post-release)

Watching the trailer was enough to tell me this would be a crock of shat. Thanks for confirming this. I won't be watching it anytime soon. Unless yolandi gets her kit off!

Not horrible but not great.

Is it possible to have too much music? I feel like some movies are better when there's no score running in the background. The score was decent but it was continuous uexcept when that horrible rave rap was playing. I'm not a fan of Die Antwoord or any of the people from it. Injecting their music into this movie did nothing for me.

Having Chappie all South African gangster was pretty lame.

I enjoy Charlto Copely and love his accent, even in the robot. That and the effects were really the biggest saving grace of the movie.

Hugh Jackman's character was a tired, formulaic antagonist. Of course, it was fun seeing him get his arse handed to him and scolded by Chappie.

The Moose mech scene was ok... was hoping for as much gore and dismemberment as the District 9 one, but seriously let down.

I feel like this movie could have been so much more. The effects are pretty much the crutch that helped this movie limp along.

Is Chappie set in the same world as Disctrict 9? I ask because Ninja has the same Reaction Force Battalion gazelle logo on the back of his vest that we see on the MNU armor in Disctrict 9.

This is actually another Die Antwoord logo. Blomkamp gave a nod to them in District 9.

Finally watched it.

I'm a fan of Yolandi and Ninja, but they were too distracting in Chappie. Their characters were way overbearing. All their music constantly playing in the background, their "Ten$ion" album signature, logos and art all over Chappie and their "layer". Hell, they were even wearing shirts with their own damn faces on them! It didn't make sense. And that's just the beginning of what was wrong with this film.

Many of the issues were already brought up, but I think the biggest problem was poor writing. None of these characters were realistic. They had poorly written lines and took illogical actions at every plot turn.

Alien 5 . . .

I dunno.

I don't want to defend this movie because I am just not that big of a fan. I can't remember where I read it, maybe from Neill himself, but I read that Yolandi and Ninja in the movie ARE Yolandi and Ninja. This is set in a near future where the economy is so bad that they have failed as musicians and are now homeless, former music stars. That explanation made their logos and clothing make a lot more sense to me. Their lines were still pretty bad, but at least it didn't feel quite so confusing about the endless Die Antwoord advertising.

They should already be failed musicians. They are terrible.

Hi guys, I'm new on this forum.
I have started modelling Chappie in 3D and am planning on 3D printing his head 1:1 scale

Chappie modelling 2.JPG

This is work in progress and I'm not done yet, some things might still change.
I am trying to get it as close to the original as I possibly can from just reference images.

If people are interested I could potentially make moulds of the parts and cast them in resin.
I have already 3D printed the top lid of his head and am currently filling and sanding it.
When I'm further along I will post some more images.

Grtz,
David.

saw Chappie this weekend out of morbid curiousity.

Wow... what a train wreck... what a missed opportunity... what a waste of 2 hours.

It was bad. It war really really bad.

The production design was okay, but the film itself was just a complete steaming pile.

Watch Ex Machina instead. Infintely better film.

I finally got around to seeing it. I enjoyed it but it was a bit depressing to watch and it isn't something that I could watch over and over again. Even the wife liked it. Just don't get the hate on tis movie.
