Need Help finishing my Jayne Cobb

Hey Gang,

Working on some final touches for my Jayne Cobb costume,
and need a few tips/pointers.

For starters, anyone have some tips/ideas on Jayne's MP5 sling
as seen in Serenity?

I'm also trying to find a source for the art to do an iron on,
and the blank shirts for the blue "let's be bad guys" shirt.

Or... if I can get the shirt, that would be shiny. ;-)

I have the yellow gun, blue sun, pin up girl, and fighting elves shirts.
I also have the lemat, drop holster, gun belt, wrist guard and I plan to order the black hat as seen in "war stories".

I have a pair of tan cargo pants, but need to get a pair of olive cargo pants.

I've been told one of Jayne's army jackets is a German Army Parka, but the collar looks to be all wrong.

I have searched through a lot of old posts, but a lot of em are dead-ends.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

LOL I have one on it's way....

I'm also ordering the "war stories" hat.

I'll work on finding the coat from the BDM, I've heard rumors that it's some sort of motorcross jacket.

Yeah, I think in the movie he uses a 1911 instead of the lemat.

Can you tell me where you got the blank tee for the "let's be bad guys" shirt?
The tag says Gap, but that doesn't really mean much sometimes.

I did find on old navy's website a similar looking ringer tee, but the description says the shirt color is grey.
Here's something on the gap's site, again, I think it's close.

http://www.gap.com/browse/product.do?searchCID=25781&pid=480001&scid=480001022&vid=-1

That shirt and the jacket that goes with it would allow me to do ANOTHER Jayne costume.

Thanks for the tips!

I got my shirt from http://shirtdistributor.com/

I don't actually remember what brand it was, but I can check the tag the next time I get the trunk out of the attic (which will be in a couple of weeks for an upcoming convention)

I make resin copies of of the pistol, based off an airsoft 1911 that I modded. It's not perfect, but it's good. I'm pretty busy for the next few weeks, but I'll probably be making up a batch of them in late January and posting them here.

The jacket I have was a gift from another board member, so I don't know much of anything about origins. I think it's an Abercrombie jacket that got customized, but I know nothing for sure.

When you talk about this jacket, it's the light brown jacket from the BDM?
Kinda looks like a motorcross jacket?

I think I might have found the jacket.

I've got all sorts of stuff for ya!

List of parts used in the bandolier, and I've got graphics up there that you can print out on iron on paper for the bad guys shirts.

I grabbed the tshirt art from your site before I could post here but I just wanted to say that it's awesome work. Can't wait to make a few shirts of my own now. :thumbsup

Ditto on that! Nice work tk7602! Thanks for making it available to everyone on the rim!!

Yes, the info is VERY appreciated.

I think I'll actually be able to make the bandolier myself with the info posted.

Looks close, but..... the collar looks significantly different to me. Also, there appears to be some sort of stitch work on Jayne's jacket just below the left shoulder. And I can't see any buttons on Jayne's coat (at least not in this pick)!

Here are a couple of pics of the actual jacket from the propstore of London, if you're interested? His coat may be custom. It looks to have alot of funky stitching goin' on! Hope this helps!

Well, from what I understand, the liner was taken out.

If that was the case, and you turned the collar down, it looks like it would be DAMN close.

Yes, I see the extra stitching here and there, so yes, it could be something custom, but from what I've been told a lot of the "custom" stuff started off with something off the rack. Firefly wasn't exactly Star Trek. ;-)

As for buttons, those can be removed.

I know I'm not going to find THE EXACT jacket used on screen, but I need something close that I can modify to come close to the jacket.

I'm just not sure if it was an abercrombie jacket, or a motorcross jacket that was used. I think both may have been used, aka one is a tv show jacket and one is a movie jacket.

Sheesh... well... back to more research I guess, lol!

E-bay

They are abercrombie and fitch Adirondack Jackets.

I'm going with an olive one. It might not be "the" jacket, but it looks like something Jayne would wear.

Quite like them jackets. Where did you find them?

I know that finding an exact match for the jacket would likely prove nigh impossible, I'm just one of those sticklers for accuracy when it comes to props and costumes. It's quite maddening really!!!:wacko Sometimes you just gotta go with "close enough" though.

I agree, the jacket definitely looks like something Jayne would wear! Hell, I'd like to wear one, they look cool! Be sure to post pics after you modify the jacket!!!!!!

i don't have any good pics of my jacket... just this bad one:

this is an older abercrombie one of some sort. not exact, but it gets the idea across :)

i'm not totally sold on the jacket being modified... if so, it was modded a LOT... so much so that making one might have been easier:

mine has the liner ripped out, lower edge torn up, and some of the stitching in the back. needs more work though!

I still swear there's two different jackets worn.

There's the one Jayne wears on the mule, and I swear when he's
in the building during the heist it's a different jacket.

I think honestly, the abercrombie adirondack is as close as I'm gonna get.
My problem is determining between khaki or olive.

I've gotta decide here soon, but as I said, I'm leaning towards Olive.

If you want the jacket to match the pants, I'd say get the OD jacket to match the OD pants. If you're trying to look mismatched, I'd say get the khaki.
