Need advice on painting resin guns

Hey all!

So I'll be buying a resin model of Vash the Stampede's Revolver from the Trigun series.

It's a relatively simple model with a few colors required, but I still was wondering if you guys had any tips. Should the resin be cleaned before I start painting?

The last resin model (my 1st) was a star trek ship and it turned out pretty well With acrylics and a clear glossy overcoat.

Do you guys have any tips for weathering, masking etc?

Thanks!

Wash with warm water and dish soap than air dry, some suggest other chemicals such as Super Clean, Break Fluid etc...

You want to remove the mold release and any greases from handling.
Dawn Dish soap is good for that.

After that a couple light coats of primer then let sit a few days to gas out.
Automotive primer works well.
Using a light grey will let you easily see anything that needs fixing.

For masking you can use 3M blue, Tamiya, Frog masking tapes.

Weathering can be done a number of ways depending on subject and desired effect.
Color Wash, Dry Brushing, Pastel or graphite dusting, Air Brushing, etc.

I use Westleys Bleach White on my resin kits. just put it in, and let soak overnight, the rinse it well with water (wear gloves.) Works great. You can get it at most automotive stores.
